Last week, our Technical Director, David Milward, visited the University of East London to deliver a lecture on #TemporaryWorks and #Engineering. Drawing on his extensive experience with diverse engineering challenges, David offered practical insights to help make complex concepts more accessible and relevant. At RDG, we value learning as a core part of our company culture and are passionate about sharing knowledge with our industry’s future engineers. We look forward to delivering more lectures in the future and continuing to contribute to the development of the next generation of engineers! #GraduateEngineers #EngineeringCareers #STEMCareers #CivilEngineeringGraduates

Work continues to progress on the Queen’s Tower restoration. The project required unobstructed access and working clearance around the 85-meter-high tower. As a #heritage structure, the solution had to be entirely free-standing and self-stabilising. The innovative solution involved designing a fully braced exoskeleton to bear the loads from an inner access #scaffold. The shape of the exoskeleton was critical in managing wind loading. Consequently, a 10-sided decagon was selected and developed for the project. #HistoricPreservation #TemporaryWorksDesign #ScaffoldDesign

Yesterday was a privilege as we attended the #TransCityRail North event and gained insight into the future vision from industry leaders. Hearing directly from those shaping the path ahead reinforced our commitment to advancing the rail sector in the North and beyond. Our work across the rail industry aligns with the key themes discussed: #innovation, effective risk management, and challenging established standards to drive meaningful change. These areas are critical in helping us—and the industry as a whole—meet #sustainability targets, reduce costs, and boost productivity. Above all, they contribute to creating an end-user experience that we can all be proud of. It’s inspiring to know that, together, we’re building a future that prioritises both excellence and sustainability in rail. Looking forward to what’s next! #RailInnovation #FutureOfRail #ConnectingTheNorth #TemporaryWorksDesign #ScaffoldDesign

📸 Progress photos from the Kensington Forum Hotel refurbishment. An extensive solution was required to support a #scaffold structure off an independent secondary structure without using the concrete floor slabs. Following a structural assessment, a steel frame was designed at levels 0, 2, and 8 to provide the necessary support. By incorporating conventional steelwork sizes, we optimised the design to enhance overall project efficiency. A notable solution was implemented at level 2, where the steel frame is supported by UC stubs resting on reinforced concrete columns. Four columns failed loading checks, requiring back-propping between levels -1 and 1. To avoid interference with ongoing construction activities, bespoke steel brackets were designed—one fixed to an existing column head and the other resin-bolted to the transfer slab ceiling. #Engineering #TemporaryWorksDesign #StructuralDesign #ProjectManagement

We are looking forward to attending the #TransCityRail North conference this Thursday! It is a great opportunity to hear more about the #CP7 framework for Northern England and connect with others passionate about advancing #rail infrastructure across the region. We’re especially interested in discussions around collaboration, #sustainability, and #innovation - the drivers shaping the future of our industry. If you see David Milward or Rachel Joshua, please stop by to say hello! 👋 With extensive experience in #TemporaryWorks and #ScaffoldDesign for the rail industry, we’re proud to support projects of all scales—from large frameworks to specialised schemes. Below, we’ve shared some photos from a selection of our rail projects. Why Partner with RDG for your next rail project? • £10m Public Liability Insurance • RISQS-approved and regularly audited for industry compliance. • Extensive experience with multi-stakeholder projects and smaller specialised schemes. • PTS-trained engineers with in-depth knowledge of Form C compilation and CRE-D roles. • Strong relationships with Network Rail DPEs and a commitment to sustainable design. • Robust risk and hazard identification procedures for each project. #RailIndustry #TemporaryWorks #ScaffoldDesign #RailInfrastructure

Our recent work at Durham University’s Palace Green Library involved designing two temporary roofs and access scaffolds to support the preservation of this historic building. The project features a 30m fixed-span, pre-cambered mono-pitched roof with the rear edge suspended from the building walls and a fully suspended 14m mobile duo-pitched roof. #DurhamUniversity #Engineering #HistoricPreservation #StructuralDesign #ScaffoldDesign #TemporaryWorksDesign

David Milward and Pooja Shah had the privilege of attending the British Construction Industry Awards last night. While we didn’t take home the win, being a finalist for the Temporary Works Initiative of the Year is an achievement in itself—and one we’re immensely proud of! The competition was incredibly strong, and being recognised alongside such impressive projects and companies highlights the significant progress we’re making as a team. This recognition reminds us that our journey is ongoing, and there are always new opportunities to challenge our engineering expertise and enhance our contributions to the industry. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at RDG Engineering for your unwavering dedication and collaboration. We also thank our clients and partners for your continued support and trust. Events like the BCI Awards not only showcase our work but also inspire us to push the boundaries of what’s possible. #BCIAwards #Construction #Engineering #TemporaryWorks #ScaffoldDesign

Adam Jones and Steph Lomax will be at the #LJMU Engineering and Technology careers fair on the 10th October to share their experiences and insights on building a successful career in #engineering. Adam joined us straight from sixth form and has grown from a CAD Technician to Associate Director over his 13-year journey. His advice to aspiring engineers: “You learn the most when you step outside your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and understand the 'why'—‘because my boss said so’ isn’t an engineering solution.” Steph started with us while completing her final year at university and has since honed her engineering skills while actively mentoring others in the business. Her advice: “Speak up about the parts of your job that genuinely interest you—it can shape your career in a way that leads to a job you truly enjoy.” Come by our stand to chat with Adam and Steph about career opportunities in engineering, professional development, and how we support career growth. Let’s talk about how you can shape your future with us! #CareersFair #EngineeringOpportunities #CareerGrowth #Mentorship #FutureTalent #EngineeringCareers #ProfessionalDevelopment #STEM
