  • Scotland’s New Build Heat Standard Prevents the Installation of Gas and Oil Boilers 🚨🛠️ The New Build Heat Standard (NBHS) requires all new homes and buildings to ditch oil and gas heating systems in favour of climate-friendly alternatives. Instead, building owners must adopt systems that produce zero direct emissions at point of use. These include infrared panels, heat pumps, electric boilers, storage heaters, and others. The NBHS is the result of changes to Section 6 (Energy Standards) of the Scottish Building Regs, which came into effect February last year, and aims to help the country meet its legally binding target to reach net-zero carbon by 2045, buildings are the third-largest cause of greenhouse gas emissions in Scotland. Patrick Harvie, Scotland’s zero carbon buildings minister, said the legislation - also known as the New Build Heat Standard - would be an important component of national plans to decarbonise all the country’s buildings by 2045. Given that 1/3 of UK housing may not be suitable for heat pumps, infrared heating offers an ideal, cost-effective, and efficient, alternative that can be fully installed in one day. • ⚠️ Between 1/3 and 1/2 of UK homes may not be suitable for heat pumps ⚠️ According to The Eco Experts, as many as 54% of UK homes aren’t suitable for heat pumps. This may be down to space constraints, insulation and building fabric, cost and disruption, or the thermal efficiency of the property. Furthermore, properties with a low EPC rating will not be able to lock in the warmth that heat pumps create - meaning they’ll be pretty useless. And, since around 59% of homes in England and Wales have a D, E, F, or G rating on their EPC, over half of these homes might not be suitable for heat pumps. Insulation is also needed for traditional boilers and alternative heating methods, but you’re likely to feel the effects of poor insulation more with heat pumps, since they tend to produce comparatively lower heat - usually at around 35-40 degrees Celsius. This means they channel heat slowly, over longer period of time. (The Eco Experts, 2023) 👉 Accessing Alternatives: Infrared heating panels offer a highly efficient, cost-effective alternative especially for properties with limited outdoor space or older homes that need extensive upgrades for a heat pump. 🌟 Why Infrared? 💰Significantly lower up-front cost. We can install a 3 bedroom house with a full infrared heating system for £2000-£4000 on average. Compared to £7000-£15,000 for a heat pump. 🎯 Heats objects & people directly - not the air, meaning less heat loss through drafts or poor insulation. 🌱 Energy-efficient & low running costs. Zoned heating capabilities & smart home thermostat control. ✨Sleek, low-profile design, perfect for any space! Decarbonise your home without the disruption of extensive insulation or outdoor space - infrared heating is the way to go 🔥 Contact us: 📞 - 0333 090 7160 💻 - www.infraredgroup.co.uk 📧 - info@infraredgroup.co.uk #heatpumps #NetZero #energyefficiency #infraredheating #housing

  • Great Britain has recorded its greenest summer on record in terms of electricity generation! 🌱⚡️ This is largely due to the growing contributions of wind and solar farms, which have significantly reduced the demand for gas-fired power stations. A report commissioned by the Guardian revealed that gas-powered electricity generation fell to less than one-fifth of the total in August, equating to 4 terawatt hours (TWh). This marks the lowest level of gas reliance within a single month! As a result, the carbon intensity of Britain’s power grid dropped to an all-time low of 144 grams of CO2 per kilowatt-hour in August, a reduction of 40% compared to the same month last year. The data, provided by energy think tank Ember, showed that this trend was sustained throughout the summer months, confirming that Britain experienced its greenest summer ever. The Labour government is committed to transitioning the UK’s power grid to nearly zero-carbon electricity by 2030, driven by an expansion of wind and solar projects. Its recent auction for renewable energy subsidies saw contracts awarded to 131 new projects, enough to power an estimated 11 million homes. The report also confirmed earlier predictions that Britain was on track for a record summer of solar power generation. Solar energy output averaged 1.86 TWh per month during the summer, representing a nearly 20% increase compared to the same period last year. Wind farms also achieved record in August, generating 7.04 TWh, a 46% rise from the previous year. In addition, Britain’s nuclear power stations recorded their highest electricity output in almost two years, producing 3.89 TWh in August. (Source: The Guardian) Final thoughts: As Great Britain moves towards a greener energy future, it’s crucial to address how heating, which accounts for around 60% of household energy consumption, plays a significant role in this transition. By adopting efficient, electric-powered heating systems, such as infrared heating, homeowners can contribute to the UK’s net zero targets. #netzero #nationalgrid #renewableenergy #gasban #infrared

  • 🔥 The 5 Most Common Mistakes When Buying an Electric Heater 🔥 Don’t get caught out by these common mistakes when choosing your next electric heater! Here’s what to watch out for: 1️⃣ Choosing the Wrong Type of Heater: Not all heaters are created equal! Different types suit different spaces. Picking the wrong one could leave you disappointed: 🌀 Convection Heaters: Generate warmth by heating the air. ☀️ Near Infrared Heaters: Perfect for localised warmth. 🌬️ Fan Heaters: Good for quick heat in small spaces. 🛢️ Oil-filled radiators: Offer steady, long-lasting heat. 🌟 Far Infrared Panels: Targets objects and people directly, creating an even temperature and cutting energy waste. 2️⃣ Underestimating Size & Capacity: A heater that’s too big or too small can ruin your heating experience. As a rule of thumb, for electric convection radiators, 100w is sufficient to heat 1 square metre. Did you know infrared panels require 42% less wattage to heat the same area as a convection heater? Make sure you match your heater’s capacity to your room size! 3️⃣ Ignoring Energy Efficiency: Running a heater can get expensive if it’s not efficient. Infrared heaters are far cheaper to run than fan heaters, and with good thermostat controls, you’ll keep those energy bills in check. 4️⃣ Focussing Only on Low Upfront Costs: A cheap heater might seem like a bargain, but it could cost you more in energy bills due to poor efficiency. Also, poor build quality and cheaper parts are likely to deteriorate faster over time. Always look out for the manufacturer warranty & invest wisely! 5️⃣ Not Considering Noise Levels: Planning to use your heater in a quiet space? Fan heaters & convection heaters can be noisy. Infrared panels, however, have no moving parts and run silently - perfect for nighttime or offices. Avoid these mistakes and enjoy a warmer, more efficient home this winter! 🌡️❄️ #electricheating #energyefficiency #NetZero #commonmistakes

  • 🚨NEWS: Infrared Heating System Cuts Electricity Costs in 30 York Flats by Over 70% A low-carbon heating firm from Yorkshire has pioneered an infrared heating system for social housing. This system was commissioned last year by Housing Association Yorkshire to replace normal electric panel heaters in two mid-rise blocks of 30 flats at Alabury House in York as part of a pilot project. The Yorkshire Housing pilot tested the system over 4 months from January to April this year and found that the electricity energy usage saving compared to the previous heating method was 73.8%. Approximately, a third of all housing and half of the UK’s social housing may not be suitable for heat pumps as they are flats and terraced housing, meaning they could lose out on low-carbon and cheaper heating ⚠️ With the UK Government’s £6.6b Warm Homes Plan backing insulation and low-carbon systems, infrared heating is emerging as the ideal solution for homes unsuitable for heat pumps including flared and terraced housing. Infrared heating offers a sustainable, low profile, and cost-effective alternative with flexible installation options, ensuring no one gets left behind in the shift to greener energy 🌿 Ready to make the shift to greener heating?
