People deserve to be protected from violence. IJM works to scale global protection from #humantrafficking and #violence.
About us
We are a global team of lawyers, social workers, community activists and other professionals working in 16 countries to partner with local authorities to protect people in poverty from violence. Our theory of change is based on the importance of the rule of law to protect those who are living in poverty and who are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Our team has spent more than 20 years on the front lines fighting some of the worst forms of violence: land theft, slavery, police abuse of power, and child sexual assault. To date we have supported local authorities to bring over 85,000 people to safety from slavery and oppression. In areas in which we have worked, we have seen that when local justice systems are properly equipped to proactively identify survivors and hold traffickers to account then the prevalence of slavery falls dramatically, in some cases by as much as 86%.

As 2024 comes to an end, we have a bold vision for what we want to accomplish in 2025. But we can’t do it alone. The work of justice requires a level of hope, courage, and determination that can only be achieved as a united global community of advocates. If there's anything we’ve learned throughout our 27 years as an organization, it’s this: When we stand together, justice becomes unstoppable. #untilallarefree

In this long-read blog, Dr. Michele Lee explains why 'survivors of violence do not just deserve good care—they deserve the best care'. This motto underpins the vision behind IJM's work around the world: https://lnkd.in/eaCCSK9U

We loved gathering with some of our UK and Africa and Europe team together to dream about 2025! We’re so excited for all next year is going to hold as we continue to work #UntilAllAreFree 💙🌍

Five-year-old Asha* displayed extraordinary bravery as she identified her attacker in court not once, but twice. Asha recounted her harrowing experience, using her words as a powerful catalyst for justice. Today, Asha is healing well, both physically and emotionally; she has finished her trauma-counselling sessions and is mainly able to enjoy a normal childhood. You can support children to heal, and get justice, when you give this Christmas. Head to IJMUK.org/hope

What does it look like to help a child heal? We spoke to Ajok Catherine, from IJM Uganda, about her role - and why she's passionate about supporting children and women who've been brought to safety from abuse. https://lnkd.in/ef6vFuFS

#BREAKING: Girl sees man sentenced to 17 years in prison for sexual assault in Uganda. Druscilla* was just six years old when she was abused by someone she trusted. Accompanied by an IJM lawyer, Druscilla – now 12 years old - was able to testify. She powerfully stated, “He destroyed my rights.” IJM became involved in October when the case was at risk of dismissal, despite the overwhelming evidence against the perpetrator. We helped police locate Druscilla and summon other witnesses to court. As a result, at the end of October 2024, the perpetrator pleaded guilty and was finally convicted. Long delays in court processes make justice harder to obtain. IJM is bringing together critical justice service actors to collaborate on each case, leading to trauma-informed care and faster progress of cases through the justice system. This is what your support makes possible: #JUSTICE. IJMUK.org *Pseudonym
