BREAKING > Two eSafety industry codes will come into effect this Sunday to deter offenders from storing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through online file storage services in Australia, whilst holding tech companies accountable to act to prevent the misuse of their platforms. The Relevant Electronic Services standard will cover a range of online communication services including online messaging and texts, video conferencing and encrypted communications, including Messenger, Skype and WhatsApp, which have been identified by the Australian Institute of Criminology and the University of Nottingham Rights Lab as popular services offenders use to live stream child sexual abuse. The Designated Internet Services standard will also come into effect this Sunday and cover online file and photo storage services, which will be obligated to implement systems, processes and technologies to disrupt and deter CSAM being stored or made available on their services, and to put in place, publish and enforce user policies to that effect. Swipe to read what David Braga, IJM Australia's CEO and Julie Inman-Grant, Australia's eSafety Commissioner had to say.

BREAKING > A football coach in Kenya has been sentenced to 30 years for sexually abusing a six-year-old. The survivor testified in court that in 2017, the coach invited the child to his house. On the way to the coach’s house, the child saw one of his friends and asked him to come too. When the child arrived, he was abused by the coach. When the survivor’s friend came looking for him, the offender opened the door, gave him some money and asked him to go buy sweets. The child, who was 12 years old at the time, told his mother of what was happening to the child, which led to the discovery and reporting of the abuse to the authorities. After IJM heard of the case, a team of advocates, counsellors, and others immediately began working to ensure he received the justice he deserved. After hearing testimonies, including from the survivor, the offender was found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison. The survivor, now 13 years old, is safe from harm and can grow up in an environment where he feels secure, free to explore his childhood without fear, and focus on his healing journey.

Tomorrow I'm doing something bold... I’m wearing my WEDDING DRESS (pictured) at work, as part of the Dressember for a Day challenge!!👰♀️ Please would you consider donating to support me in this challenge? Funds raised will go towards combatting violence and slavery in industries like the garments industry, where thousands of people around the world have been trafficked and forced to work in gruelling conditions. As much as this will be funny, I’m actually not doing it for laughs. I want to make a difference in the world and I need your help to do that. Join me and donate here: https://lnkd.in/gxBqyrm6 #dressember #endhumantrafficking #humanrights #ethicalfashion Dressember International Justice Mission Australia

Today I am wearing my kilt to work! I am doing this to get involved in Dressember for a Day! Dressember is an amazing fundraising campaign which helps support the incredible work of IJM. This morning, I read the following from Tom Wright's "Broken Signposts": "One of the beautiful things that distinguishes the Christian idea of justice is that it is participatory: we are part of bringing it about." Perhaps this Christmas time you've been considering justice and generosity, perhaps this is the opportunity you've been waiting for to be generous this Christmas! Any contribution is greatly appreciated and will make a difference in the lives of those who need some help this Christmas. International Justice Mission Australia Dressember https://lnkd.in/gTBbb-eA
