About us
Welcome to Hovis. We are the proud guardians of over 130 years of baking experience that make up our iconic and much-loved brand. We produce bread and bakery products created with Hovis goodness at the heart of each and every one. We deliver around 1.3million loaves, every day of the week throughout the UK and Ireland, where we also make Mothers Pride and Ormo products. We are 2,800 people working within 8 bakeries, 1 flour mill, and 2 regional distribution centres across the UK. Our success is a result of the hard work of our people; they are experts in their field whether it’s baking, manufacturing, logistics, engineering, or the many departments within the central functions team based in our head office in High Wycombe. We are a values-led business and expect our colleagues to live, breathe, and embed Quality, Accountability, and Trust into their ways of working. In 2020 Hovis was acquired by Endless Plc in an agreement that will allow us to make significant investment into the business infrastructure, grow our product range and achieve further growth in the bakery category.

We are delighted to be able to do our bit for the community. We have also been enjoying Christmas dinners with all of our teams on site - a great way to celebrate the hard work of all of our colleagues throughout the year.

Across our network, we are proud to support hundreds of UK based charities, including many tackling food insecurities just like The Bread Run #thebreadrun 🍞 This initiative addresses food insecurity by providing fresh bread to rough sleepers, homeless individuals, and those facing hardship. By redistributing surplus bread, the volunteers ensure that the most vulnerable receive nourishing food while also reducing waste. Initiatives like The Bread Run offer immediate relief and foster community spirit, demonstrating that partnerships between organisations can effectively address urgent needs. Today we share a colleague story from a proud veteran, current Hovis employee and great-great-nephew of a WW2 spitfire pilot, Tom P.. When digging into the history of Hovis and also WW2, Tom learned that in 1942 the employees of Hovis bought and dedicated a spitfire to help the RAF, they named it from the Latin “Hominis Vis” meaning “Strength of Man”, after the meaning of our founding company name in 1890. Many aircraft and equipment including Spitfires were purchased and gifted to the Royal Air Force by companies and towns to help the WW2 effort. 📷 a WW2 spitfire (from bfbs.com 2017). Tom Pook's great-great uncle - a WW2 Spitfire pilot. The Emblem on the "Hominis Vis" spitfire on an aluminium plaque painted with coat of arms to the centre and motto “HOMINIS VIS”. Reverse is written on tape when sold at auction, “THE EMBLEM FROM THE FIRST SPITFIRE WHICH HOVIS EMPLOYEES BOUGHT FOR THE RAF THE YEAR 1942”, measures 23 x 18cms. Tom Pook, Veteran representing the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) by participating in the annual Cenotaph Parade in London. One of the very first Hovis adverts.

From mixing, flour dusting to the final distinctive cut along the top, these delicious and tantalisingly soft loaves have been created by our expert bakers using a traditional starter dough, which is given time to fully develop.
