Exciting News… we’re proud to announce that Highview Power will develop four new 2.5GWh power plants, to deliver 10GWh of long duration energy storage across the UK by 2030. Two of the 2.5GWh plants will deliver more storage than all of the UK’s existing battery storage, using 100% sustainable technology, with a 40-year lifespan. Supported by the UK Government’s new cap and floor mechanism, this marks a key milestone in the journey to achieving a net zero grid by 2030. Scotland & England Lead the Way… our first 2.5GWh plant will be located in Hunterston, Scotland, with a total of four new plants across the UK. Each plant has the capacity to power up to 650,000 homes for over 12.5 hours, a major boost toward ensuring energy security and curbing renewable energy curtailment. The GOV.UK Clean Power Action Plan recognises that developing a flexible power system to accommodate and store Britain’s renewable resources is central to delivering a decarbonized grid by #2030 💥. In Wood Mackenzie's recent report - The Changing Shape of European Storage - it's notable that 50% of Europe's project pipeline for storage - by capacity - is in the UK. This demonstrates the strength of the UK's #innovation and capability in #LDES and storage 🔋 more broadly. Currently 1502 projects are live across 33 European countries, representing 62GW of storage capacity. It's clear that more and more governments are realising that #energystorage is central to delivering #decarbonised energy systems with #renewables at the centre 🎯. Just one of Highview Power's large plants can store enough power for 650,000 homes for 12.5 hours. With a small footprint and the ability to be located anywhere, our #technology is fully capable of maximising the UK's huge offshore wind capacity.  We say it again and again – but, seriously, there's no #transition without #storage 💪💚. Delivering 100% Clean Power across the UK by 2030 is possible, according to National Grid ESO if we to build, connect and operate new generation, while maintaining security of supply 🔐 . In the first 11 months of 2024, wind power curtailment reached 6.6 terawatt hours (TWh), close to £1bn in costs, because clean power is going to waste and there isn't enough storage. National Grid ESO has warned that curtailment costs could reach £6 billion 💷 annually by 2030 unless significant reforms are made. Highview Power’s technology can store and shift energy to flexibly deliver clean power based on demand. It's no secret that global energy systems need vast amounts of #storage to maximise renewable energy to achieve full #decarbonization.   At #COP29, countries and regions announced the Global Energy Storage and Grid Pledge to increase global energy storage capacity six times above 2022 levels, bringing the target to 1500GW by 2030, alongside increased grid capacity targets. This is the first time that the Conference of the Parties (COP) has brought clean flexibility on to the agenda - growing recognition that without #storage and grid upgrades our climate pledges simply aren't achievable.   Storage is key to delivering the COP28 pledge of 3x renewables by 2030 and a #decarbonized UK grid by 2030.   #COP29 #COP28 #storage #LDES #LAES #netzero #decarbonization 

Highview CEO, Richard Butland, recently sat down with POLITICO to share key industry insights for their Morning Energy and Climate UK newsletter (MEMEC), highlighting liquid air technology as a vital component of the UK’s clean energy infrastructure. Energy storage is the next “battleground” in the government’s bid to clean the U.K. grid by 2030. In the interview Richard says the government is on “the right trajectory” with its clean power goals. But he thinks there is still one missing link - storage. “Storage is critical, and it’s the next battleground, right? Because fundamentally, I think we’ve committed to the generation, and with AR6 [Contracts for Difference allocation round six] we’re getting a very significant amount of further projects,” he said. But “decisions needed to be made quite quickly” by the government if it is to hit its big green goals, Butland added, even as he talked up “great alignment between government, DESNZ, NESO, and Ofgem.” He argued: “I think that the next challenge will be moving that into execution.
