It's very hard to capture in photos the buzz that is in the room at our Halsey Keetch breakfast events. This morning was fantastic. Today, we gathered bright and early at our City office to hear from Joy Harcup and Helen Hopper to deep dive into one chapter of their book, The Art and Psychology of Board Relationships, which is of particular interest to us. Along with a room full of guests from our network we discussed how executives and the board: ✔ Establish and manage their respective roles and responsibilities ✔ Stay aligned in complex, highly regulated and fast-moving environments ✔ React psychologically when boundaries are blurred, lines are crossed, or when it's a struggle to feel in control in high stakes situations ✔ Can contribute at a strategic level to the best of their collective ability The conversation was helped along by hot coffee, fresh fruit and pastries and by the contributions from our wonderful community. Thank you so much to Joy and Helen for joining us and for giving an insightful and engaging presentation, and also to our guests for sharing your time with us once again, and for contributing to such a rich discussion. Thank you for having me Women on Boards UK I had a rare opportunity to be alone on my drive and listen to podcasts without any distractions on my way to Cardiff, which was followed by a really energising evening listening to the stories of my fellow speakers Dawn Gunter and Melanie Proffitt and saying a few words myself. I was in the company of Helen Rhydderch-Roberts our fantastic Head of Research, who for once didn’t have to travel far for work as Cardiff is her home ground. It was a pleasure to meet so many new people and I hope to build on those new connections and get to know everyone better. There were so many inspiring take-aways from the evening. At the heart of them all was the power of being authentic and true to your own strengths, confident enough to back yourself but open and humble enough to listen and learn from others around you (no matter how senior you become), alongside being curious and willing to take the odd risk… in summary - go for it, whatever stage of your life or career you are in. And there was a cherry on top in the form of a little something to take home 😀

Founding Director at Halsey Keetch - Expertise in Financial Services Governance & Controls Since 1988
I am really looking forward to joining Women on Boards UK in Cardiff on Thursday, where I will join Alison Thorne and my fellow speakers for an evening of Boardroom insights through conversation, discussion, and experience sharing. These sort of events are definitely one of the absolute 'best bits' of my work at Halsey Keetch. There are always new so many new perspectives to gain and things to learn from others, and new professional friends to make.

Founding Director at Halsey Keetch - Expertise in Financial Services Governance & Controls Since 1988
To my network, Most of you know me through my work as Director of our long-established, family-owned executive search and board-level firm, Halsey Keetch. Over the years, I have been less vocal about my work as a coach. Back in 2016 I decided to embark on training as professional coach. Curious by nature, I have always been fascinated by people’s careers, lives, stories and ambitions. Even as a child I was fascinated by people; I always wanted to talk (I LOVE talking), and find out all about them. Listening to people telling me about their lives and dilemmas would set my mind alight with ideas and options and possible solutions on their behalf. I completed my training in 2019 and since then I have coached many women though my professional network, always on a word-of-mouth basis. My niche has become supporting women through periods of professional and personal change, and I find the work so inspiring and rewarding. I have two children myself, with a fairly sizable age gap between them, and as a working mum I understand the complexity of simply navigating day-to-day life, let along building a successful and rewarding career. I understand the continual challenges that women face, especially as we head towards perimenopause and beyond, which hugely impacts our physical well-being and energy. I have spent my entire career working with the financial services industry, so I have an intricate knowledge of career paths, and the step-change that occurs when moving roles, organisations or when being promoted. I have worked with some of my clients for a few months, sponsored by their organisations. I also work with a personal client base, either with one-off sessions to support decision making, or over a period of time. In each situation I act as a sounding board to steer and support my clients through challenges or periods of opportunity and uncertainty. I describe my coaching style, accurately in my opinion but perhaps not very gracefully, as the opportunity to sit down and empty out the contents of your head with me as your guide; all those ideas and voices, responsibilities and conflicting internal opinions can overwhelm and trap even the most capable people, leading them to feel stuck and uninspired both at work and in life more generally. Procrastination often sets in as a direct result of this overwhelm. However, once we start to clear out the cupboards of our mind, and put things back in a better order, everything starts to change, sometimes slowly but sometimes with astonishing speed. I want to do more of this work because I love it, because it is powerful and because the world of work needs as much inspiration and action as it can get at the moment. If I can help unlock just a little bit of that power then that would be fantastic! So, if you would like to hear more about how I could support you personally, or the fabulous women in your organisations, please do get in touch. caroline@halseykeetch.com

It was such a pleasure to start my day at AllBright today, as a panellist on a fantastic event organised by Stephanie Slade, who I have got to know well over the course of the last few years through our involvement with the Diversity Project - Investment Industry and also because I was lucky enough to be her executive coach for 6 months a couple of years ago. The event was aptly called ‘Women Who Rise and the focus of the panel discussion was on building your own brand, knowing and articulating your value and the importance of resilience, which is something I have had to work very hard on developing over recent years! The atmosphere was warm and inviting and it was just a really great conversation. Thank you Stephanie for putting it all together and for inviting me to take part. I was extra honoured to be sat between fellow panellists Helena Morrissey and Clare Forster who have unbelievably impressive careers, so I basked in their light for a couple of hours and learnt more than a few things about their own career stories. A great morning.

🔅 Getting GRC leadership talent matters sorted over summer 🔅 We hope you are enjoying summer 2024 so far. Here at Halsey Keetch, we believe summer provides an opportunity for reflection and rejuvenation. Work slows down somewhat and deeper organisational issues within Governance, Regulatory and Controls (GRC) functions can be contemplated. This summer, we would like to offer clients our assistance in addressing any leadership resourcing, succession planning or general organisational issues that are at hand across their GRC functions. These services are exceptionally insightful, bespoke and enable our clients to address a wide range of talent-related questions, whilst providing direct access to the talent market for hiring purposes if a complete search process is not required. We are delighted to be able to offer a 20% DISCOUNT ON ALL PROJECTS COMMENCED BEFORE 1ST OCTOBER 2024, meaning that the value-for-money we always offer through our competitive pricing will be even greater. If this is of interest to you then please contact us for more information or to see a sample of how we conduct and present our research projects. Organisational questions and issues that our talent mapping and succession planning product can assist with are nuanced and vary from one project to the next. Some examples of how our work can assist you in your thinking are below: ✅You have worked hard to improve your GRC functions and continuity is important: do you have adequate succession plans in place for your Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Risk Officer, or Head of Internal Audit? ✅Your long-serving Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Risk Officer, or Head of Internal Audit is planning their retirement: there may be a successor in the team – but who else in the market might be suitable? ✅We live in an age of surprises, where no eventuality can be ruled out: have you taken ‘key person risk’ sufficiently into account in relation to your most important SMF positions? ✅You have very specific requirement for a very important GRC leadership hire: how do you go about understanding your options for success within a niche, competitive hiring market? ✅ Changes to company boards can be gradual, or pressing, but always business-critical, whilst enabling cognitive diversity is recognised as best practice: do you have a view on the INED population of greatest interest to your main or subsidiary boards, for both current and future purposes? We look forward to helping you. caroline@halseykeetch.com
