  • The World Happiness Report is a partnership among Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the World Happiness Report's Editorial Board. The report has become an indispensable resource for satisfying the growing global interest in prioritising happiness, wellbeing and in government policymaking. Gallup's World Poll data on life evaluations are the primary source behind the annual happiness rankings for countries worldwide. For the seventh year in a row, Finland has landed the top spot in the United Nations World Happiness Reports and that with only a nation of roughly 5.6 million people. Nordic countries continue to excel, as they have historically: With Finland topping the list, as well as Sweden and Denmark also ranking well, not to mention the Netherlands, Iceland, and Norway. Why is Finland the happiest country every year? Finland outperforms the average country in education, work-life balance, environment quality, social connections, safety, and life satisfaction. What sets them apart from nations with lower scores is support systems that can soften the impact of shocks. Whether through support for mental health and well-being or a strong sense of leaving a positive legacy for future generations through efforts like the sustainable development solutions network, happy country citizens report better life evaluations and more positive assessments of their own lives. What is exactly the right mix of ingredients for happiness? High GDP per capita, social support in times of need, absence of corruption in government, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, or charity towards others: these are the original six key factors that the researchers have used over time in their report on global life satisfaction. Looking more closer to home the United Kingdom had dropped to 20th place due to the decrease in happiness of under 30-year-olds compared to older generations. This decrease was also prevalent in Germany, Spain, France, and the United States. At Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre, they have stated that young children and adolescents are essentially experiencing the “equivalent of a mid-life crisis” at an early age. The World Happiness Report should be a tool used for drastic action so we can improve the happiness and wellbeing world-wide. We can only hope that progress can be made and that we see an increase in happiness worldwide towards the next report. #worldhappinessreport #worldhappiness #wellbeing #insights
