Can forest schools and outdoor learning bolster children's resilience and enhance their immune systems? Indeed, research indicates that exposure to increased biodiversity can strengthen children's immune responses within just twenty-eight days. Such exposure has been shown to improve their ability to combat ailments such as asthma, eczema, type 1 diabetes, autoimmune diseases, and allergies. In the recent rebranding of the Little Angels Nursery chain, understanding the influences shaping our client's educational philosophy was crucial. Little Angels Nursery's innovative approach is inspired partly by Scandinavian models of early learning, a significant factor in our branding strategy. This influence is evident in the new visual identity that we are proud to have created, which is now visible at Little Angels Nursery. Today it’s #WorldDreamDay! One year ago I had this big dream of helping families understand what they can do to give their children the healthiest start in life, based on the latest science. It came after discovering that our gut health and diet during childhood affects our risk of eczema and allergy later in life (both conditions that I have). It shocked me to see that there is so much scientific knowledge, but not much is taken to the public. Our society works in a strange way - most things around us are not good for our health and our planet. Processed food, pollution, medications used as quick fixes, plastic everywhere. There is no institution that truly has people’s long term health as incentive. I used to work in Health Care and I didn’t see any company truly working towards improving health. “The Dream” is to prevent and be free of diseases, not monetize them with pharmaceuticals and interventions. My idea for Alba Health was to create a company that would help families KNOW what to do to give a healthy start in life to their kids. Imagine a generation of people who are free from disease and truly thrive. I wanted to focus on kids because that’s when we build our life long health. A year ago, we were sketching what the Alba box would look like and working with the lab to fine tune our DNA sequencing protocol. It all seemed so far away. Now it’s crazy to think that in the past few months over 650 families have tried Alba! We are also wrapping up the PREVENT Study, in collaboration with Uppsala University, to advance research on the link between children’s gut health and colic, eczema and allergy. Today it’s World Dream Day and I want to share a big THANK YOU to all the people who have been part of Alba so far. Keep dreaming and turning dreams into reality 🤍 #childhealth #child #eczema #allergy #microbiome #research #barn #tarmflora #dream #entrepreneur #baby #babyfood #probiotics #health #healthtech

• RESEARCH ON EATING BEHAVIOR IN CHILDREN WAS AWARDED THE 2nd BEST POSTER IN CONGRESS • The 3rd edition of the European Congress on Maternal and Child Nutrition took place from 24 to 26 October, at Eng. António de Almeida Foundation, in Oporto, and was the stage for the presentation of the poster entitled "Influence of Anthropometric and Sociodemographic Factors on Eating Behaviors in Young Children" by researchers Cátia Pontes, Sara Dias and the research fellow Rita Novo, which was awarded the 2nd best poster at the congress. Presented by co-author Cátia Pontes, this work aimed to relate anthropometric and sociodemographic characteristics with eating behavior in children between 2 and 10 years old accompanied in a private pediatric clinic, in Leiria. The 94 complete responses to the CEBQ (Children’s Eating Behaviour Questionnaire) allowed the research team to conclude that the Body Mass Index (BMI) is associated with the pleasure of eating (Enjoyment of Food dimension), that the Slowness in Eating dimension and the total score of CEBQ is higher in female children, and that these results reinforce the importance of promoting an adequate eating behavior from an early age, in order to contribute and promote a healthy nutritional state in the future. #eating #eatingbehavior #ciTechCare #children #veggies4myheart #food

I hungrily consumed a report by Caroline Thomason, RD, LDN, CDCES, writing for EatingWell, entitled “The 6 Best Heart-Healthy Picks from McDonald's’s According to Dietitians” (1). #Healthy options are available at the drive-thru! First according to St. Louis nutritionist Dorian Doss, MS, RD, is the Egg McMuffin, because of its leaner #protein (#Canadian bacon) and moderate amounts of #fat and #sodium. [Side dish: In #Canada, the number of adults diagnosed with #heart disease has declined, and the death rate for those with #heartdisease has decreased, per the Public Health Agency of Canada | Agence de la santé publique du Canada.] Thomason also recommends, “For extra #antioxidants and #vitamins, wash it down with a small orange juice.” Second on the list is the McCafé Latte, apparently loaded with #nutrients, but the main attraction is #caffeine. Numerous epidemiological studies have shown the benefits of antioxidants and caffeine for #neurodegenerative and #cognitive disorders, and translational studies continue to reveal the mechanisms of promising #nutraceuticals and #dietary #medicine. The gentlest way to monitor the heart of awake #laboratory animals is with the ECGenie from Mouse Specifics, Inc., which non-invasively reports heart rate, #HRV, and the PQRST intervals from birth through old age. ECGenie: Straight from the heart! https://lnkd.in/eFy7vGqS. DigiGait reports #biomarkers of #mobility, #stability, #balance, and #strength in animal models of #Parkinsons, #Huntingtons, and #ALS. DigiGait: See HOW they run! https://lnkd.in/eEsskBjR. Enriched lab animal housing improves their #welfare, reduces #stress, and benefits many aspects of their #behavior. Katharina Hohlbaum, for example, recently described a novel lockbox placed in mouse enclosures to facilitate their manipulative and cognitive activities (2). Kelly Lambert, writing for The Conversation U.S., points to the work of her lab at the University of Richmond in teaching rats to drive rat-sized cars [no, not the #Mitsubishi Mirage nor the #Kia Soul]. Data prove that rats can learn the complex task of navigating a car to a desired goal area, and that tasks incorporating complex skill mastery are important for #preclinical #research (3). Ah, locking the keys inside the car, something I’ve done on more than one occasion, might offer a good #emotional and #physical challenge! I came across this recording of a presentation I gave during BC Centre for Disease Control #ResearchWeek 2020 about a population-based study of the effect of respiratory TB on chronic airway disease among people without pre-existing COPD, asthma, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis (our measure of chronic airway disease). We compared people diagnosed in with TB with non-TB controls, among people immigrating to BC, Canada, during a study period of 1985 to 2015. #TB #tuberculosis #survivorship #postTB #LifeAfterTB #epidemiology #causalinference https://lnkd.in/ejKQUrB9

The health of students and their ability to focus in school is closely tied to the quality of the air they breathe. Cleaner indoor air means fewer asthma attacks, reduced absenteeism, and improved academic performance. On July 25, 2024, Congress introduced the *Indoor Air Quality and Healthy Schools Act* (H.R. 9131) to address these concerns, marking a significant step toward improving air quality in schools and child care facilities. This bill will establish clear standards for indoor air quality, encourage assessments, and provide support to ensure healthier environments for all students—especially those with asthma. Join the movement! Contact your representative today to support this crucial bill and help create safer, healthier learning spaces for our children. https://lnkd.in/gUKtcuUk #CleanAirForKids #HealthySchools #AsthmaAwareness #SupportHR9131 #IndoorAirQuality #ChildHealth #SaferSchools #EducationMatters #AAFA #Congress #AsthmaAwareness #HealthyChildren

Thanks to Healio for letting me review this new research and share my thoughts. Rather than seeing cats as an asthma trigger, this study explores what happens when people start life with a cat (between birth and two years) - and continue to have a cat throughout their childhood. The research shows that kids raised with a cat have a 64% reduction in developing asthma. This reminds me of the new thinking that its better to introduce peanut products to babies early to get the body accustomed to being around peanuts. Instead of the way I was told in the 90's to protect my kids by not exposing them to certain foods. Thanks to all the researchers who are always looking at the world in a new way and use research to prove their ideas. #Cats #Asthma #Prevention #Preventative #AsthmaEducator #HealthEducator #PublicHealth #Lungs https://lnkd.in/gS2u4esN
