  • It's fantastic to see the Government furthering their commitment to decarbonising aviation, and we welcome the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Mandate, which came into force yesterday. In 2023, 99.8% of flights from London Gatwick were flown in the cleanest available aircraft, and we continue to play our part in wider industry initiatives to increase both demand and supply of SAF - ensuring the growth of our airport and industry are more sustainable.

From January 1st, flights departing from the UK will use greener fuels, as the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Mandate officially comes into force.   The SAF Mandate will ensure by law that SAF must make up at least 2% of all jet fuel in flights taking off from the UK from 2025, growing year-on-year to 10% by 2030 and 22% by 2040.   The UK is one of the first countries in the world to sign a Sustainable Aviation Fuel mandate into law, putting us at the forefront of decarbonising air travel, kickstarting the Government’s Plan for Change.   SAF production will support thousands of skilled jobs in every part of the country, deliver economic growth and help make the UK a clean energy superpower. https://lnkd.in/egUY9Dd7   [LINK TO PN]

    • What is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)?
SAF is an advanced fuel made from sustainable materials. SAF can be blended with conventional jet fuel to power aircrafts.
    • What will the SAF Mandate do? The SAF Mandate will require 2% of jet fuel supplied in the UK to be SAF in 2025, increasing year-on-year to 22% by 2040.
    • How will it help us reach net zero?
The SAF Mandate could deliver up to 6.3 million tonnes of carbon savings per year on a lifecycle basis by 2040.
  • Every day our colleagues keep our airport moving. The small actions they make, often unnoticed, make all the difference for our passengers.
