About us

Back in 1989 two friends decided to open the first Furniture Village store in Abingdon, Oxfordshire with a simple philosophy – to offer high quality, beautifully designed furniture at a great price with exceptional service. Our customers seem to like it, and today we’re Britain’s largest independent furniture retailer, employing 1000 staff, and offering 500 different furniture ranges online at www.furniturevillage.co.uk and from 56 stores nationwide. Our philosophy remains the same – and we’re still a family run business. Our buyers are passionate about great design and travel the world to find furniture to inspire and excite our customers. We only partner with trusted furniture brands that share our absolute commitment to quality and many have been with us from the very beginning. Everyone - from our online sales team to our delivery drivers - is committed to 'doing it right'. We've won the Furniture Industry's Retailer of the Year Award on four separate occasions, and Bed Retailer of the Year two years running. We take pride in selling beautiful furniture that can last a lifetime and in building strong and lasting relationships with the passionate, dedicated people we work with. We welcome people who share our core values - our people are our greatest asset and every one of them is part of our family.

  • We strive to embody the spirit of ‘Achieving Together’ in all that we do, and our fifth annual Royal Marine's Commandos Obstacle Course challenge served as a wet and muddy testament to this motto ⚔️   A record-breaking 52 of our colleagues tackled 26 obstacles on the 7 km course at Hever Castle this year, scrambling through pitch-black caves, over cargo nets, and in freezing water together. Facing fears and pushing through tough situations builds individual character and strengthens our team bonds, and it was inspiring to see so many of our people helping each other round the course to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise.   A big congratulations to all who took part!

This year, on Global’s Make Some Noise Day, we were so lucky to have so many amazing partners and build these partnerships into our challenges and content. Thank you to Universal Pictures International Entertainment / The Wild Robot, who supported Amanda Holden’s Big Ride to Work, cycling from her Mum’s house in Cornwall, to London (over 250 miles!). Roz the robot was featured at Amanda’s finish line, and was a huge highlight on the day. Thank you to Domino’s Pizza UK & Ireland Ltd, who supported Toby Tarrant’s challenge, Tarrant Vs The Thames, where he spent five days pedalling over 50 miles, all on a unicorn pedalo! Domino's hand-delivered to Toby during his challenge, helping to keep a smile on his face. Thank you to Viking, who supported Dan Walker’s Coast-to-Coast challenge, where he cycled the full width of the North of England, as well as Aled Jones and Alexander Armstrong’s Famous Five Flipped challenge, where Aled set out to find five hidden clues on a Viking ocean ship, putting Alexander’s knowledge to the test on-air. Thank you to Digby Brown Solicitors, who supported Des' Great Walk to Glasgow, where Des Clarke took on a gruelling challenge, walking from Fife to Glasgow in less than 24 miles! Finally, a huge thank you to our headline sponsor Furniture Village, who supported our entire appeal, donating furniture to some of our amazing charities, and more. We raised a life-changing amount of over £3.7 million for small, local projects which provide essential support and services to those who need it most, and we couldn’t have done it without these partnerships, and that’s not to mention all of our other partners! If you are interested in partnering with us, drop us an email at contact@makesomenoise.com – we’d love to hear from you. #MakeSomeNoise #Global #CorporatePartnerships

  • Great to join in the fun with everyone at Global on Friday for Global's Make Some Noise Day!   As well as sponsoring the DJ lounge, we hopped on the donation phones lines to help the team raise as much money as possible.   As Global’s Make Some Noise headline partner, we know how much this will make a difference to the thousands of people supported by small charities and local projects all across the UK.   We’ll also be hosting our own fundraising event soon. • Today, on World Mental Health Day, we want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of mental wellbeing in the workplace. We spend a lot of time at work and we're committed to ensuring every employee in our business has access to free mental health support. Our Employee Assistance Programme offers confidential counselling and free mental health resources to support our people through life's ups and downs. We've also taken the additional step of providing mental health training for all our managers so that mental health awareness is embedded in our culture and teams - the place where it really matters. By fostering a culture of mental health awareness and support, we've seen the benefits in individual well-being and it has also made us a stronger, more collaborative and resilient business. #WorldMentalHealthDay #WorkplaceWellbeing

  • Another week, another supplier visit 🇷🇴 Over 20 of our people jetted off to Cluj in Romania to meet the team at Bodahl Møbler and take a peek behind the scenes at their factory. Bodahl craft stunning, one-of-a-kind oak dining tables, and it was a privilege to see the skill and care that goes into making one up close. There's a story behind every product we sell, and we're passionate about helping our store consultants bring these stories to life for our customers. As well as lots of time on the factory floor, there was also time for a spot of high-wire hi-jinks which was great fun!
