About us
Field Studies Council is an environmental education charity. Founded in 1943, we are best known for providing residential and day field trips for those studying biology and geography. But our mission is to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature. We are the only environmental education charity dedicated to helping people of all ages to experience the environment at first hand; to discover, explore and be inspired by the natural world. Each year over 140,000 people visit our Centres either as a child on a family holiday, a young person on a school fieldtrip, an adult on a leisure learning course or a teacher on a professional development course.

It's great to see outdoor learning taking place in Birmingham city centre.🌇 We are so excited to be leading urban fieldwork courses in Birmingham to help young people better understand urban environments and how they change and develop over time. 🏙️ If we want to nurture the next generation of successful urban designers, town planners and big city thinkers then young people need to understand the relationships between our natural and built environments and learn about the impact of change. These courses challenge students to think about all these things. 🎓 We have teaching sites across the city that are all reachable by train or coach, making these courses easily accessible.🚌 From The Bullring and Digbeth, through to Millenium Point and Perry Barr, the location for the Commonwealth Games 2022, students will learn valuable fieldwork techniques whilst discovering these fascinating locations. Thank you to School Travel Organizer for sharing our news. 👉

We are excited to announce that we will once again be taking part in welcoming and charting the arrival of spring next year, by launching our interactive 'Signs of Spring' project, in partnership with @royalsocbio. Last year saw 1,160 sightings of snowdrops and 828 people registered daffodils! Next year we’re hoping to get even more people involved across the whole of Britain! The survey will open on January 1st 2025 – so if you are heading outside to welcome in the New Year – remember to keep your eyes open for those first signs of spring! We want to hear from you all the way through until June, from the first signs to the last markers of the season, all making their way onto our interactive map. Environmental learning needs to be embedded into the new curriculum.🌍 How will the ecologists, conservationists, habitat managers, wildlife restoration officers and biodiversity managers of the future know that these jobs are open to them? The only truly effective way to make sure these #GreenSkills for nature are nurtured and developed is to give young people access to good quality #fieldwork, and we are calling on the government to make sure that this is embedded into any new #curriculum it develops.🌲 👉 Read more: https://buff.ly/3OT5taQ
