Environmental learning needs to be embedded into the new curriculum.🌍 How will the ecologists, conservationists, habitat managers, wildlife restoration officers and biodiversity managers of the future know that these jobs are open to them? The only truly effective way to make sure these #GreenSkills for nature are nurtured and developed is to give young people access to good quality #fieldwork, and we are calling on the government to make sure that this is embedded into any new #curriculum it develops.🌲 👉 Read more: https://buff.ly/3OT5taQ

🔥 New post! | Biocultural diversity, the “new normal” in conservation: an interview with Chang Norman Liu, Terralingua’s Blog Editor When people think of conservation, often images of trees, water or animals come to mind. Many are led to believe that working in conservation means being a biologist, land manager or researcher. But there is a whole other component of conservation that many rising conservationists are not taught about: biocultural diversity. Chang Norman Liu is... read the full description on our website. 🐾 Title: Biocultural diversity, the “new normal” in conservation: an interview with Chang Norman Liu, Terralingua’s Blog Editor 🌳 Author: Anne Mauro 📌 Categories: Interviews,Communicator 👉 Link: https://lnkd.in/ewy3nCNa #ConservationCareers #ConservationJobs #ConservationAdvice #Conservation #Wildlife

We can all agree that a career in conservation is deeply rewarding, offering opportunities to protect the environment, conserve biodiversity, and make a lasting impact on natural ecosystems. Volunteering is seen as an invaluable step for anyone considering a career in conservation. It provides a way to gain practical experience, develop essential skills, and to make meaningful connections with people in the field. Whether through wildlife monitoring, habitat management, or environmental education, volunteering can help you build a strong foundation for a career in conservation which employers will be looking for. A huge thanks to Sue Searle BSc, PGDip, MCIEEM from Ecology Training UK Ltd for this insightful and practical piece for #internationalvolunteerday. Read the full article here https://c-js.uk/4fxQePH

It's great to see our GIS project with University of Derby featured in Garden News magazine! Students studying Environmental Sustainability are using Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies to help us map St Ann's Allotments - one of the largest allotment sites in the UK. GIS can show many different types of data on a single map bringing together all the features that make St Ann’s Allotments special. As a Grade 2* English Heritage site and a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, the allotments are home to many unique features including heritage-listed Victorian buildings, 32 miles of hedgerow creating a green corridor for nature, and wildlife plots for rare birds, moths, butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies. The project will run until January giving students time to create a base map of the whole site and map significant areas in more detail - giving us access to the essential data we need to protect St Ann's Allotments' invaluable heritage and habitats for wildlife. Thank you to ScottishPower Foundation and Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd for your support!

WCT’s Fiscal Principles project aims to harness public finance as a mechanism to safeguard not just natural ecosystems, but also the development needs of communities that live in and around these ecosystems. It also aims to expand the ambit of the existing devolution formula suggested by 15th Finance Commission, and create incentives for maintaining non-forested ecosystems such as grassland, scrubland, wetland and desert, instead of focusing solely on ‘green cover’. On 21st March 2024, WCT organised a consultation on ‘Improving Forest and Ecology Grant of the Finance Commission’, which brought together some of India’s best minds in ecology, wildlife conservation, forest management, economics, public finance and public policy. The group deliberated on the possibilities of modifying the criterion and formula for devolution of funds from the current ‘forest and ecology’ one to a more comprehensive ‘ecosystem functionality’ approach; and the implications of protecting such ecosystems on the communities that reside within them. Reflecting on my time as a Conservation Coach at Coaching Conservation, I’m filled with gratitude. Initially, I wasn’t sure how my IT background as an Applied Business Computing graduate would fit into a wildlife conservation role. But I quickly realized that both fields share common ground—problem-solving, data analysis, and strategic thinking. These skills were key in helping me create engaging conservation programs, short theatrical skits and presentations as well as ensuring the smooth coordination of activities for children. Now, I find myself asking, “What’s next?” This experience has deepened my passion for environmental advocacy, and I’m ready to take on more opportunities that combine both technology and conservation. 🌿💻 Or explore what another branch of lessons my career tree could have in store for me. #Conservation #WildlifeConservation #TechAndConservation #Gratitude #NewOpportunities #WhatsNext

𝘼𝙋𝙎𝙀 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 - 𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙉𝙚𝙩 𝙂𝙖𝙞𝙣: 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙨 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙨 Click here to book 👉 Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) became mandatory on 12 February 2024 under Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as inserted by Schedule 14 of the Environment Act 2021). This course will outline the background to this element of the Environment Act 2021, how it relates to corporate and service level plans, how it applies in practice and what it means for parks professionals. Participants will use tools to help in assessing suitable sites and develop plans to engage in planning processes at an early stage. Although not mandatory in Scotland or Northern Ireland, the most recent State of Nature report, published in 2019, suggests there has been a 13% decline in the average abundance of wildlife in the UK since the 1970s. This course contains useful information about nature recovery and planning, which is equally relevant to authorities across the UK.
