"In just 12 months, we’ve had 25% growth in the number of women’s teams and 21% growth in the number of girls’ teams. All of this meant we could celebrate 1,000 new women’s and girls’ cricket teams in 2024." Leshia Hawkins, Managing Director (Recreational Game) at the ECB, reflects on a year of continued growth – and looks ahead to more positive developments in the years to come. The growth of women's & girls' cricket in Wales has been significant in recent years with 50% of clubs now having a women's team; up from 7% in 2018. Glamorgan Cricket have been at the heart of that growth with Carmel & Districts CC a shining example of a grassroots club that has benefitted from prioritising attracting women's and girls' players from the local area in north Wales. Two trailblazing all-weather cricket domes in Bradford have had a transformative impact on the community. We were proud to work in partnership with Bradford Council to co-fund the state-of-art £1.5m domes, enabling cricket to take place all day and all-year round, whatever the weather. Initially aiming to attract 10,000 people a year, well over 20,000 have been through the doors in their first year of operation. They’ve been used by thousands of casual players as well as Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s 1st and 2nd XI, Northern Diamonds, Northern Superchargers and Bradford Park Avenue’s own women’s team, and they’ve also hosted numerous community events including sports camps for children during school holidays. It’s all helping give more people access to cricket as we strive to become the most inclusive team sport. We have plans to build more facilities like this in urban areas, and with Government support we would capitalise on hosting the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and the 2030 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by building 16 state-of-the-art domes within host cities across England. Read this blog from Nasa Hussain, Facilities Manager at Bradford Park Avenue, or watch the video to find out more about the impact the domes have had https://lnkd.in/efduEd66 Yaseen Mohammed Nasa Hussain Paul Cummins Yorkshire County Cricket Club Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Yorkshire Cricket Board
