The finish line is in sight for the major transformation work taking place in Bradford city centre. The majority of this monumental infrastructure project is now complete, with all the major changes to the road network layout, the new bus loop in place and the work on the new pedestrian core area of the city centre finished. Vast areas are no longer a construction site, and fences have come down, opening areas up and allowing people to begin to reclaim these spaces. Some fencing will remain to help the planting to become more established. but this will be removed early in the new year, ready for RISE the UK City of Culture launch event on 10 and 11 January 2025. Work in the Norfolk Gardens area, which is the final piece of the puzzle in the city centre’s transformation is moving at pace, with the majority of the work in this area completed. Construction partners Balfour Beatty plc will return after the festive break to complete this final section of the project. The Bradford City Centre Walking and Cycling Improvements project is being delivered through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority's Transforming Cities Fund, which is a capital grant transport fund, provided by the Department for Transport and cannot be used for other purposes, such as delivering day to day services or other projects. Renovation work on the Good Shepherd Centre, a Keighley charity which empowers economically and socially disadvantaged people, is due to start soon. The charity focuses on health, education, pastoral care and well-being for those in need, as well as assistance with food, clothing, and household items. Its facilities at Presbytery House on West Lane are being modernised following a £140,000 grant from the Government’s #KeighleyTownsFund. The hall of the old building will be divided into two spaces, featuring fully refurbished triple-glazed windows, an energy-efficient heating system to keep the rooms warm, new lighting, and a brand-new floor. The UK-FR Forum is an opportunity for mayors, leaders, cabinet members and officers from local government to meet and exchange with French counterparts on subjects of common interest. This year’s Forum taking place this week in our region has focused on social inclusion and placemaking and was extra special in this 120th anniversary year of the Entente Cordiale. Pictured are Cllr Susan Fricker and Dr Saira Ali with the French Ambassador to the UK Hélène Duchêne and British Ambassador to France Dame Menna Rawlings and Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe addressing the delegates – in French!

Creating a more sustainable future for generations to come 🍃♻️🌱 Today at the Hydrogen Industry Leaders conference our Head of Decarbonisation, Peter Cole, discussed the challenges of decarbonising heavy-duty transport and the potential role of hydrogen, including a demo of our Hydrogen Mobility Visualiser (https://lnkd.in/ehMBVTtR). It's clear that place-based solutions are essential to a sustainable future. Hydrogen could be a game-changer for rural areas and regions seeking economic growth and job creation. #hydrogenmobility #decarbonisation #TransformTheNorth

The first phase of the Providence Park industrial site in Keighley town centre has been completed, and the historic site has as much special significance to the developers working on it as it does to the town. The £12million redevelopment of the former Universal Mills site, on the corner of Dalton Lane Bradford Road, began in April 2023 and has received £6.5million funding through the Government’s #KeighleyTownsFund. It has been owned by Keighley developer Peter Rock for more than 50 years, and was formerly the base of his business Modern Equipment & Foundry Engineering Ltd. The new site will stay true to those engineering roots because as well as housing industrial units, part of it will be used by Keighley College as a new Manufacturing, Engineering and Future Technologies Hub. The hub will be used to provide students with academic and practical experience, and achieve T-level qualifications. More ➡️ https://orlo.uk/Xm1lo
