🎄Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from ECDP!🎄
East Coast Digital Programme
Rail Transportation
An east coast railway that works better for people
About us
The East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP) is delivering the next generation of train travel – creating a better performing East Coast Main Line for passengers and everyone else who uses and depends on it. As part of the Programme, traditional lineside signals will be replaced with state-of the art digital signalling using a system called ETCS (European Train Control System) to create a safer, more flexible, efficient and greener system - with less delays and more capability. The East Coast Main Line will be Great Britain’s first intercity mainline to be upgraded to digital and it lays the foundation for further improvements across the network. The ECDP brings together 32 industry partners, who are collectively working to create a more efficient railway fit for the future.

The weekend saw another round of successful testing completed for East Coast Digital Programme. Around 30 successful round trips completed between Welwyn to Hitchin, thanks to the efforts of colleagues from GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway), Grand Central Rail, Network Rail Eastern Region and Siemens Mobility. The work moves the programme another step closer to European Train Control System (ETCS) being used for passenger and freight trains on the East Coast Main Line. 🚂 Classic ‘High Speed Train’ in main line digital signalling run The iconic High Speed Train (HST), a symbol of British rail heritage, has become the first older generation train to participate in main line digital signalling testing. Two Class 43 power cars, each fitted with #ETCS equipment on board, took part in testing between Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin. The testing demonstrated the collaboration involved with #ECDP. The on-board Hitachi Rail equipment was tested with the Siemens Mobility wayside system and involved testing engineers from both companies. The train was driven and operated by specialist European rail operator RailAdventure UK Ltd, with GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway), providing the test train officer. 📰 Full story here: https://lnkd.in/eipCT-5z #DigitalSignalling #IndustryPartnership #EastCoastDigitalProgramme

🚄 Commuter trains now all controlled digitally on City of London route Another milestone for ECDP as ETCS is now controlling every single train that commuters catch on the GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway) route from Finsbury Park to Moorgate in the City of London. Ed Akers, Network Rail’s industry partnership director for #ECDP, said: “This is a great achievement on what will become the first commuter railway in the country to operate without any physical signals. I’d like to thank all the signallers, drivers, engineers and planners across our whole partnership who have worked hard to make the Northern City Line project a success". 🎤 Great to have ECDP Transformation Director Caroline Crewther representing the programme at #TransCityRailNorth. Here's a snippet of the insight she had to share: "Most other programmes have had varying degrees of success, but our one was so complex…looking at other programmes, we knew we had to set up East Coast very differently. We set it up purposely as a transformational change programme that was going to be enabled by technology" #DigitalSignalling #ETCS #IndustryPartnership #ECDP
💡 Exciting discussions at the Leaders Debate on the Future of Digital Signalling at #TransCityRailNorth! In partnership with AtkinsRéalis, we explored how digital advancements in signalling are reshaping the railway. With insights from industry experts like James Webster (AtkinsRéalis), Caroline Crewther (AtkinsRéalis), Sam Turner (she/her) (GBRX), and Paul Boyle (London North Eastern Railway), the session covered the East Coast Digital, Trilink, and Transpennine Route Upgrade programmes, focusing on how digitisation is paving the way for tech-driven innovation and a new wave of suppliers. #DigitalRail #InnovationInRail #ConnectingTheNorth
