Long-term sickness absence in the UK is a runaway train. Now, 78% of businesses in a new survey say they have a problem with absence. Most HRDs, though, believe they’re on top of the issue. EAPA UK chair Karl Bennett calls for more collaboration between employers and their HRDs to reverse what has become a major issue for the nation and its productivity and potential for growth. #eapauk #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #wellbeingatwork #mentalhealthawareness #eap #employeewellbeing #mentalwellbeing www.eapa.org.uk

Should employers be fined for ‘unhealthy’ working conditions? The influential think tank, the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), believes they should. Rather than thinking about punishments, all stakeholders should be working together to support workplace wellbeing, says EAPA UK chair Karl Bennett. #eapauk #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #wellbeingatwork #mentalhealthawareness #eap #employeewellbeing #mentalwellbeing www.eapa.org.uk

A new campaign linked to World Mental Health Day is pushing for 15 minute exercise breaks for desk-based employees. The sportswear firm ASICS is using a package of research into the links between mental health and movement and social media content fronted by Succession’s Brian Cox to promote its message. But there are no single or easy solutions to supporting mental wellbeing at work, argues EAPA UK chair Karl Bennett. #eapauk #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #wellbeingatwork #mentalhealthawareness #eap #employeewellbeing #mentalwellbeing www.eapa.org.uk

Don’t give us wellbeing apps and free yoga, say employees, just a more positive and flexible work environment. So says a new survey from Investors in People. Working with their EAP is the way for HR to identify wider issues with culture and the solutions that are the real foundation for wellbeing, suggests EAPA UK chair Karl Bennett #eapauk #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #wellbeingatwork #mentalhealthawareness #eap #employeewellbeing #mentalwellbeing www.eapa.org.uk

More employers are introducing digital tools intended to pick up on mental health crises and provide a rapid, digital solution. The software responds to employees who use their browser at work to search for suicide or self-harm related content. The slide towards quick digital fixes is a dangerous trend, argues EAPA UK chair Karl Bennett. #eapauk #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #wellbeingatwork #mentalhealthawareness #eap #employeewellbeing #mentalwellbeing www.eapa.org.uk

The Institute for Public Policy Research think tank is calling for a whole new role for employers in health: including a duty to ‘do no harm’. The recommendations come in the wake of the IPPR’s new report into presenteeism and its link to low productivity. It’s another reminder of the importance of engagement and creating a sense of belonging among employees, says EAPA UK chair Karl Bennett #eapauk #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealth #wellbeingatwork #mentalhealthawareness #eap #employeewellbeing #mentalwellbeing www.eapa.org.uk
