  • We were delighted to hear that one of our recent placement students, Tressan McCambridge, has been awarded a Professional Work Experience Excellence Award for her placement at our Highland Meats site. Tressan, now completing her Food Science degree at University College Dublin, earned the award through a 500-word submission and an interview with a panel to showcase her professional and personal growth during the placement. Tressan spoke to us about her placement experience: “My overall experience was extremely positive. I really enjoyed my time at Highland Meats and was sad to see it come to an end. The FSQ team fostered a positive learning environment where I felt comfortable to ask questions, which really facilitated my growth in the role. I enjoyed getting hands-on experience of the industry and a highlight was engaging directly with microbiological sampling and chill validation, providing me with practical skills that are essential in the food industry. I also gained exposure to unannounced audits which gave me valuable insights into industry expectations and the importance of operational excellence. During my placement at Dunbia I appreciated the responsibility I was given and really felt like I was making a meaningful contribution.” Congratulations to Tressan on her award 🌟 Find out more about our placement opportunities at: https://lnkd.in/eMFHG_fQ #placementstudent #workplacement #placementopportunity #foodscience #foodsafety

  • In November, we came together to celebrate International Men’s Day 💙 A company wide initiative was launched asking employees to nominate a man within the company who has inspired them. With hundreds of nominations, it’s clear to see that we have a huge amount of inspirational men within the Group! Sites also held their own celebrations and initiatives to get employees moving and promote conversations surrounding men’s health & wellbeing. Llanybydder pledged to do 278 hours of exercise throughout November in honour of the 278 men lost to suicide in 2023. They smashed their target, recording 329 hours and raising funds for Movember and The Farm Safety Foundation. Sawley set a target to walk or run the 165 miles from our Sawley site to the Cross Hands site and also smashed their target moving 224 miles almost reaching our site in West Devon! Cross Hands welcomed Hywel Dda Health Board and Prostate Cancer Cymru to site to reinforce the importance of men checking their health and seeking support when they have concerns. Several sites handed out chocolate bars to employees, had information stands, and hosted fun activities like ‘Pin the Moustache on the Manager’. All helping raise awareness of men’s health and well-being and promoting positive conversations.

Congratulations to Agriculture Manager, Leisia Tudor, on being awarded the Rising Star Award at Friday’s Women in Meat Industry Awards! ⭐🥩 Leisia is a hardworking member of our Agriculture team, working closely on the beef and lamb accounts for some of the UK’s largest retailers. Coming from a farming background, she originally joined Dunbia through the graduate programme as sales and commercial graduate. Leisia was given considerable responsibility as a graduate as she was able to demonstrate capability to manage and complete important tasks. In her role, Leisia works closely with members across the supply chain, including bridging the gap between retailers and farmers to ensure supply chain efficiency, particularly as we work towards Plan Four Zero. This has seen Leisia work with farmers to measure key performance indicators, work on animal health and grassland projects and review carcass specification to support farmers in running a profitable and sustainable enterprise. Leisia also runs live-to-dead sessions with farmers, colleges and stakeholders, to demonstrate how to choose livestock for slaughter. She also sits on HCC’s new Sustainable Innovation and Research Working Group. Well done on a very well deserved win! 🏆
