Last night, our Director, Jennifer Scott, had the privilege of joining the renowned artist and writer Edmund de Waal for an In Conversation event at the Ordovas Gallery. Jennifer contributed an essay for the exhibition catalogue of their current show, Golds—a dazzling exploration of one of art's most symbolic and evocative colours. Running from 4 October to 13 December 2024, Golds brings together 11 works by internationally acclaimed 20th- and 21st-century artists including Edmund de Waal. Adding a rich historical dimension to the exhibition, these modern works are juxtaposed with a medieval treasure: a champlevé enamel chasse from Limoges, France, circa 1200. The evening offered an inspiring dialogue on the enduring allure of gold in art, bridging centuries of cultural and artistic significance. If you're in London, this is an exhibition not to be missed! We are delighted to read this piece on our fantastic Head of Collections Helen Hillyard.
The latest edition of Curator in the Spotlight has been published, in which Helen Hillyard (CODART member since 2016) talks about storytelling as a cornerstone of her curatorial practice and connecting historical collections to the present. Helen’s passion for Dutch and Flemish art, and her sense of the importance of making art feel relevant and accessible, were shaped by her experiences at The National Gallery in London and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. She is currently Head of Collections at Dulwich Picture Gallery, where she leads experimental projects that offer alternative ways of engaging with art.
