Think of us as property managers and developers with a difference.
About us
Think of us as property developers with a difference. Whether we’re renovating a building, looking for projects in the community, or regenerating an entire town, we keep sustainable building and a low carbon agenda front of mind. That’s our ‘Golden Thread’ and it runs through everything we do. We combine our knowledge in the arena of sustainable development with a responsible business approach and a drive to build extraordinary communities and generate valuable local regeneration. By working in partnership with local and national stakeholders to support projects that will bring sustained transformation, we are often able to take on undervalued sites that require strategic and creative thinking to turn them into viable developments. Crucially, we’re not just about construction. We also own and operate business parks and commercial premises across Cumbria, creating spaces that inspire people in their working day and drive growth in organisations from start-ups to major international companies. BEC is owned by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Copeland and Allerdale Borough Council and Cumbria County Council, and we work closely with several local partners including Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership. And while we’re proud of our Cumbrian roots, we’re always looking for opportunities where we can bring positive change further afield. https://discoverbec.com

We are proud to support the Creating Careers programme by providing a placement within our Grounds Maintenance Team. Our GMT Supervisor, Steve Parry shared his thoughts: 'We couldn't have asked for a more hardworking individual to join us. Throughout the two-week placement, the participant displayed exceptional enthusiasm and a strong desire to seize every opportunity to develop their skills. For anyone considering supporting the programme in the future, I strongly encourage you to do so. We all deserve the opportunity to shine." #opportunity #support #placement #experience
We've now celebrated the end of the Creating Careers in Construction programme which started back on 7th October with an Outward Bound residential at Eskdale, followed by a CSCS Card Course, delivered by our programme partners Inspira for Life, before a week of volunteering at the Good Lives project on Westlakes Science Park. This was followed by work placements with a range of employers Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, MARCH. BEC, Gleeson Homes where participants could put into practice all of the skills that they have developed during the programme. The celebration event hosted by Lakes College provided the opportunity to reflect on all the great achievements of the participants and thank all those individuals and companies that have contributed to the success of the programme and made it possible. One participant who couldn't make the celebration had the best excuse ever - he was at work - a huge congratulations to Chris Bottomley who is the first off the programme to secure a job, landing a role as an Electrician in his first employed role since 2019. Chris was a real inspiration throughout the Creating Careers in Construction programme - Chris said “I would like to thank everyone involved in the programme who have helped me massively, especially with confidence and trusting my belief that I was going about things in my own personal way but the way that I’ve always done things, with respect, integrity, humour where possible and always staying true to yourself”. Well done Chris - your inspiration throughout the programme continues as the other participants are supported in searching and applying for jobs. Creating Careers in Construction is made possible with funding from the Sellafield Ltd SiX – social impact, multiplied programme.
