With Astro Bot's big win at The Game Awards last week and the holidays fast approaching, we couldn't help but take a deep dive into the rise of family gaming. Plus, should brands be taking notice? Below are a few reasons we think so. 1️⃣ Positive Brand Sentiment: Family gaming fosters relaxation, bonding, and positivity. Thoughtful campaigns within this space can help elevate your brand’s image. 2️⃣ Household Decision Makers: Brands can directly reach household decision makers, especially during key shopping seasons like the holidays when video games are at the top of many wish lists. 3️⃣ Brand Safety: Family-focused campaigns offer a wholesome, brand-safe way to connect with this gaming audience. 4️⃣ Integrated Campaigns: From in-game integrations to creator partnerships, brands can craft creative campaigns that really resonate. Such a privilege working with PlayStation to help celebrate the one year release of the Access controller with this short documentary spotlighting the amazing Jared Grier, The AbleGamers Charity, and Alejandro Courtney (Quadgods Gaming). We couldn't be more proud to be a part of this one.
December 6, 2024 marked the first anniversary of the release of the Access controller, a highly customizable accessibility controller kit for PS5. Now one year later, we’ve produced a short documentary on the impact of the Access controller, touching on the design process, its benefits for gamers, and lessons learned from continued work to create a future of more accessible play. https://lnkd.in/gyBwM_nD

Jake Paul getting trashed by Chris Rock during his SNL monologue is exactly what he wants. He wants you to hate him 🥊 In the world of digital attention, engagement is currency. Love him or hate him, if you’re talking about Jake Paul, you’re helping his brand. His entire career is a masterclass in leveraging controversy and making calculated decisions that ensure he remains relevant – and profitable. Every headline, every backlash, every outraged tweet fuels the cycle he’s built. Jake knows that being disliked is often more valuable than being ignored. The more outrage he sparks, the more his reach expands. This isn’t just reckless behavior; it’s deliberate strategy. > Picking fights that seem ridiculous? ✅ > Challenging established names to box him? ✅ > Generating media backlash? ✅ He plays the villain because he understands a crucial truth: publicity pays, no matter the sentiment behind it. The Chris Rock SNL moment is the latest example. By calling out Jake, Rock amplified the very attention Jake thrives on. It’s a win-win: Rock gets laughs, Jake gets headlines. And whether you’re laughing, cringing, or shaking your head, you’re talking about Jake Paul – and that’s the point. In an era where algorithms reward attention, polarization is a business model. Jake Paul isn’t simply stirring the pot; he’s monetizing the outrage. If you’re in media, marketing, or content creation, there’s a lesson here: Attention isn’t neutral. The way you generate it can be as strategic as any business decision. Whether you admire or despise his approach, you can’t deny it’s working.

“I was never a passenger" - The smart answer I got when asking one of Dexerto’s longest-serving team members, Calum Patterson, how he went from working part-time while at university in Edinburgh, to a senior role at Dexerto. I’ve always loved hiring early-career talent—those eager to excel and willing to go the extra mile. Calum embodies that perfectly, and as I'm hiring for new part-time writers (https://t.ly/fG9YB), I figured it was worth sharing his wisdom. 1️⃣ How did you find out I was hiring and what did you do to get the job? Back in 2017, everything was on Twitter. I saw you posting about an opening for a full-time US writer. I was neither in the US nor able to work full-time, as I was at university, but I thought I’d try my luck anyway. I messaged, explaining that I was a capable writer knowledgeable about Dexerto’s content, and if they were willing to give me a shot, I knew I’d do good work. 2️⃣ You were part time at the beginning, how did you juggle with university? Did you learn anything at uni that later helped you at Dexerto? Writing for Dexerto was a really enjoyable break from university essays. I love writing, but I didn't really enjoy academic writing, so it was a breath of fresh air. Juggling the two was easy; it never became stressful. My degree was in criminology, so not exactly related to journalism, but the ability to think critically and communicate ideas clearly is all part of university, writing, and working in a team like Dexerto. 3️⃣ Going full time, did anything drastically change for you? More than anything, it was fun—I got to do the kind of writing I enjoyed much more. I was also able to contribute significantly to the direction of the website, as I was involved in more conversations more often. Working more also sped up my learning, from writing news to understanding Google and social media. 4️⃣ You've progressed through the company and are now one of our senior members of the editorial team, how did you achieve that? think it was mainly because I was never a passenger. I didn’t just start work, write articles on autopilot, and clock out. Instead, I got involved in discussions about stories and how we should approach our content. I always recommend suggesting new ideas, being ready to disagree and be disagreed with, and generally being an active member of the team. 5️⃣ What advice would you give university students who are working part time for a company while they study but want to go full time? You obviously have to prove your value to the company. Show that you have a genuine interest in working there and aren’t just doing it for a bit of money until you graduate and move on. If that’s your plan, that’s fine, but the company will likely notice. If you want to go full-time, demonstrate how invested you are in the work and show that you’d be an asset to have full-time.
