Our mission is nature's recovery - a world where wildlife is abundant and where nature and people thrive together.

About us

Nature is in trouble and Devon Wildlife Trust’s mission stems from the need for urgent change and our belief that, if enough people care and act, we can bring nature back and do it on a grand scale. For 60 years, we have been at the forefront of protecting wildlife and the wild places that make Devon so special and believe, passionately, that a better world is one where nature and people thrive together. We are the only Devon focused charity that exists to protect all wildlife in Devon, on land and at sea. Our work covers landscape scale efforts to recover nature, pioneering work to bring back lost species like the beaver, delivering nature based solutions to climate change, connecting people and communities with nature, bringing nature based learning to the next generation, and campaigning for laws and policies that recognise how vital nature is to us all and which drive individual action for wildlife. We are a member-led organisation, with over 37,000 members and hundreds of volunteers, and we are part of a movement of 46 Wildlife Trusts across the United Kingdom.

  • Do you live in Exmoor? Would you like to see white-tailed sea eagles in the area? 🦅 Our partner, Exmoor National Park, want to hear from you! They’re gathering feedback on the reintroduction programme of white-tailed sea eagles to the region. Thanks to the efforts of the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation and Forestry England, the reintroduction programme is already taking flight! Exmoor has quickly become a hotspot for these magnificent birds, with seven white-tailed eagles (also known as sea eagles) spotted along its coast and combes since the project began. Now, there’s an exciting plan to release up to 20 juvenile eagles over the next three years, helping establish a thriving population. With Exmoor’s stunning woodlands and coastlines providing perfect breeding habitats, this is a chance to restore a vital part of our natural heritage. Your voice matters! • As 2024 comes to an end, we are celebrating the impact that The Wildlife Trusts movement has had this year. 💚 Our wild places are under constant threat, with wildlife disappearing at an alarming rate, but incredible work is happening across the UK to lay the groundwork for nature’s recovery. Here at Devon Wildlife Trust, that includes the reintroduction of pine martens to Dartmoor after 150 years! Thank you for all of your support in 2024. Together we can protect, restore and create wildlife-rich landscapes and bring more wildflowers, butterflies, birds and mammals back to Devon.

  • Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas ✨🎄 Whether you celebrate or not, we hope this festive season brings you peace, joy, and a well-deserved moment to rest and recharge. Thank you for being part of our journey this year—we can’t wait to embrace a wild and wonderful 2025 with you all!

  • A huge thank you to our two initial pledgers, including @Turnstyle Designs Ltd, for helping us reach our target in the Big Give campaign! 🎉🐾 Your incredible support has made a real difference, and thanks to you, we are now one step closer to expanding our efforts. With your help, we can build on the success of the pine marten reintroduction on Dartmoor and work towards bringing these amazing creatures back to Exmoor soon. Your generosity is vital in making this possible, and without you, we wouldn't have reached this milestone. Together, we’re taking an important step towards restoring a key part of our native wildlife and enhancing the health of our woodlands. Thank you once again for being part of this important journey! 📷: Terry Whittaker/2020VISION

  • From the first record of the rainbow sea slug in the county, to incredible sightings of dolphins and whales, it’s been a big year for marine wildlife in Devon. Today The Wildlife Trusts’ 2024 marine review has been published, which highlights this year’s biggest threats, incredible species discoveries, and how conservation efforts are making a difference across the UK. Huge thanks to the passionate volunteers in Devon who have devoted over 700 hours of their time in Devon to surveying, monitoring and engaging people with our incredible marine environment. • Our Exeter Valley Parks team has been working hard to improve access to Ludwell Valley Park, focusing on creating a more inclusive experience for all visitors, including those with mobility challenges. Efforts such as widening gate systems are helping to make it easier for everyone to enjoy the park’s natural beauty and wildlife. Five gates have been widened, each with a side gate that stays open when no cattle are nearby. Plus, one gate was removed as there are no longer cattle in the area. This vital work has been made possible by the generous support of the Clare Milne Trust. To ensure the safety of both visitors and livestock, the gates may occasionally be closed when cattle are present. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to enhance these green spaces, making them more accessible and welcoming for all.

  • A huge thank you to the @Stuart Line Cruises team for their incredible support! As a long-established business in Exmouth and a close neighbour to our Inner Warren nature reserve, Stuart Line Cruises has been a dedicated supporter of DWT for years. Through their fantastic, guided birdwatching trips, they’ve raised an amazing £3,779 this year, thanks to the generosity of their customers. We’re incredibly grateful for their ongoing support of our work and for helping us safeguard Devon’s wildlife and natural landscapes. • A huge thank you to everyone who donated to our Pine Martens Big Give Christmas Challenge! Together you’ve helped us reach our £50k goal in match-funded donations so that we can build on the success of the recent release of pine martens on Dartmoor and make their reintroduction to Exmoor a reality in 2025. 🐾 Thanks to your generous donations, these critically endangered animals will be able to thrive in the south west for the first time in 150 years, improving the health and diversity of Devon’s woodland habitats. 💚 📷: Terry Whittaker/2020VISION

  • A massive THANK YOU to everyone who has shared and donated to our Pine Martens Big Give Christmas Challenge in the last couple of days. Words can't express how grateful we are for your help. So far, you've helped us raise nearly £20k, but we still have a long way to go to reach our target of £50k by next Tuesday. Time is counting down! Every donation - big or small - is match funded by The Big Give, and will go towards reintroducing Pine Martens to Exmoor and Dartmoor. Plus, it will train a dedicated group of volunteers in woodland restoration and wildlife monitoring. Vital for the success of the project. If you are able to highlight the campaign to your contacts, or are thinking of donating, thank you. The support of the LinkedIn community means so much to us.
