About us
Marginalisation and inequality are growing across the UK; consequently some of the most high-potential students are not entering some of the best-paid and most exciting careers paths. The Classroom to Boardroom Foundation works directly with students, schools, and businesses to overcome career barriers that are very often related to economic disadvantage. Our programmes are developed with a student's potential and career capability front-of-mind. We support secondary and post-16 students, who are at a key inflection point in their lives - typically when they first seriously consider their options for future careers. In partnership with our extensive school network we run skills workshops, work experience placements and apprenticeship programmes. In doing so, we support students to develop their employability skills and connect our students and alumni to our global network of clients. There are many exciting ways in which you can support the Classroom to Boardroom Foundation. Speak with Mathilda Johnston-Jones today at mathilda@dartmouthpartners.com to learn about how you can get started.

The UK is losing £19 billion every year from businesses not investing in social mobility, according to a new report by Demos and The Co-op. The report highlights there around 7.4 million people in the UK missing out on career opportunities due to socioeconomic barriers, but if businesses invest in social mobility then not only will it help to create 540,000 jobs but also has the potential to boost yearly tax revenues by £6.8 billion. Investing in social mobility is not just 'the right thing to do' - it is an economic imperative that will drive meaningful growth in businesses through employing an increased pool of diverse talent. The Classroom to Boardroom Foundation is dedicated to bridging these gaps by connecting young people from underrepresented backgrounds to real opportunities in finance and professional services. We’re committed to creating a more socially mobile society, one where everyone has a fair chance to succeed. If your organisation is interested in making impactful strides in social mobility or exploring collaboration opportunities with us, reach out at ctbfoundation@kernel-global.com. This weekend is Class Pay Gap Day, where those from working-class backgrounds effectively stop getting paid for the rest of the year. Research from the Social Mobility Foundation highlights that on average, those in the same occupation but from working-class backgrounds earn 12% less every year than their non-working-class counterparts. This means they work 1 in 8 days for free! A big part of this gap comes down to things such as having a limited professional network to provide support and opportunities, and not having the funds to make the most of further or additional training. The result of this is people from underprivileged backgrounds often miss out on promotions and pay raises. The Classroom to Boardroom Foundation works directly with students at key stages in their education to help them build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to pursue careers that might otherwise feel out of reach. By supporting students early on, we're taking steps to close the Class Pay Gap and create a more socially mobile society. What are you doing to help close the gap? If you’d like to be involved in creating positive change we’d love to hear from you at ctbfoundation@kernel-global.com. Let's close the gap together! #ClassGapPayDay #ClosetheGap #SocialMobility

We were thrilled to attend the Croydon Careers Fair this week and meet so many inspired future professionals. The day event was dedicated to young people aged 16-25 who are eager to take the first steps in their professional journey. The day was packed with activities and we had the privilege of engaging with enthusiastic students and career leads from across Croydon, introducing them to the exciting opportunities the Classroom to Boardroom Foundation offers. Our Foundation is on a mission to empower young people by providing essential resources, mentorship, and real-world business exposure to prepare them for a successful transition from education into the corporate world. By partnering with schools, communities, and corporate leaders, we are creating pathways that make a lasting impact on youth employment and career readiness. A huge thank you to Feldberg Capital for hosting such an impactful event and to Croydon Works for their outstanding organisation! Interested in seeing us at more events like this? We are delighted to see a commitment to investing in apprenticeships in the Budget, with an 18% bump to the minimum hourly wage. Apprenticeships can be a powerful tool for social mobility, equipping students with high-demand skills and enabling long-term career growth without inheriting the debt from a university degree. However, concerns have previously been raised about the minimum wage for apprenticeships, as this "low" wage is likely to discourage individuals from considering the route. This would have particularly impacted disadvantaged students who could have most benefited from apprenticeships, as the wage alone would not be enough to financially support them. Labour’s pledge will be the largest increase on record and will open the doors to more students from under-represented backgrounds being able to meaningfully consider apprenticeships. While we would love to have seen the Low Pay Commission's recommendation of raising the apprenticeship minimum wage to the national minimum wage for over 18s, this is a welcome first step. There is a lot of change to still be made, and we hope to see a dedicated increased investment into apprenticeships to be able to break open the talent pool even further. Follow our LinkedIn page to share our journey or visit our Classroom to Boardroom Foundation in the comments to learn more about our mission and help us bridge the social gap from classroom to boardroom! #Apprenticeships #SocialMobility #ClassroomToBoardroom

Transitioning from school to the workplace can be tough, but for students from underprivileged backgrounds, the barriers are even higher. At the Classroom to Boardroom Foundation (CtBF), we believe that talent shouldn’t be held back by background. Through mentorship, career exposure, and hands-on experience, we’re bridging the gap between education and professional success for high-potential students. Here are some inspiring stories from our CtBF alumni who, with our support, have successfully overcome their challenges and are now confidently shaping a future they once thought wasn’t an option for them. #SocialMobility #DiversityAndInclusion #CareerDevelopment
