At The Climate Agency, we believe Climate Change is not "real" enough for most people, not real enough to change the way we vote and live. So this January 2024, we've written a short story about a day in the life of a Londoner, 50 years from now. We've aimed to base it on the science, but hope that scientists will tell us if we got anything wrong. What do you think? #MakeItReal #Climate #Climatecommunication #climatetech #sustainability #climatescience #london

About us
Supporting Climate Solutions is our North Star. We believe humanity needs every tool in the box to fight climate change. Yet, many climate solutions do not get the attention they deserve. That’s why we are dedicated to helping climate start-ups. We are a non-profit marketing consultancy, accessible even to early-stage start-ups. Our processes are agile and get results fast . At the same time, we never compromise on quality and strive for excellence. Our founders have decades of leadership experience at the most senior level, from global multi million pound campaigns to commercial entrepreneurial projects, working with some of the best creative and thought partners. We use this expertise and our network of connections to help climate teams with: 1) compelling messaging 2) clear stakeholder strategy 3) unique look and feel 4) communication plans, and 5) great assets delivered quickly and competitively. We do this through our 2 strategic workshops and creative sprint, which we designed specifically for the climate sector. Our clients feel we are genuinely on their side. European NGO Carbon Gap said, “It’s rare to find a partner who understands the climate communication space as well as the Climate Agency does.” North American Start Up Powertrust said, “Sophie and Lisa took an extremely complex topic and made it digestible (…) helping us craft content that will break through the noise…” We understand speed matters. Typically, we’ll present practical recommendations and actions within weeks. Important news that may have slipped by too fast in the pre-Christmas celebrations: For the first time, a Scottish startup has signed a deal to inject carbon in a depleted oilfield, 1800 metres below the seafloor. It's a big deal for many reasons: - These empty wells can safely and permanently retire a hell of a lot of carbon, - It kindda makes sense to put emissions back where fossil fuels were in the first place - It's a big geological advantage for Northern Europe and , if the UK gets its mojo working, for Britain too. And yes it would be immensely better to reduce emissions drastically at the same time. We should do everything, everywhere, all at once. Congrats to The Carbon Removers, for applying entrepreneurial drive and real boldness to the management of biogenic #carbon at scale.
🌍🚢 Big News! We’re thrilled to announce that The Carbon Removers has secured a landmark deal to sequester 50,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year, permanently beneath the North Sea as part of the EU’s first operational CO₂ storage facility, Project Greensand Future. This is a huge step forward for engineered carbon removal and a testament to the North Sea’s potential in helping Europe achieve Net Zero. A special thanks to our incredible team, partners, and Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney for their support during this journey. Together, we’re creating practical, scalable solutions to tackle emissions .🌱🌊 https://lnkd.in/ewmCbszK #CarbonRemoval #NetZero #ClimateAction #Innovation

Ever wonder what they’re thinking whilst you’re pitching?? Here's a “behind the curtain” insight for Climate Tech Startups: We’ve conducted dozens of high level stakeholders interviews, from investors to sustainability directors. So we can share what makes them tick. 1. The Seed Investment VC is (also) looking for reasons to say no. “During a pitch, we’re searching for a hook, but we’re also looking for red flags” says a London-based VC. What are they? 🚩No.1 is the “broadcast mode” - when founders talk “at” you, leaving no time for Q&A 🚩Lack of awareness of who else is in the market with a similar solution 🚩Dissing other competitors or pathways 🚩Basing pricing on the market today without planning for the evolution that is bound to take place, or comparing pricing with solutions that are different, at another stage of maturity ------ Team dimension is key, so the VCs will be looking at how you’re interacting. “We’re looking for teams who can demonstrate they work well together and can adapt and pivot when things get tough,” said another UK-based investor. The Climate Agency always recommends role-playing the pitch in advance to practice your team dynamics + don’t forget to have someone watch the ⏱️ so you leave plenty of space for questions. ----- 2. The Series A VC is looking for a rock-solid momentum story. So where is the evidence of traction? 📌“Give me the evidence” says our London VC “such as patents and contracts - we hate it when we scratch the surface and things aren’t rock solid, for example when contracts are just LOI” 📌 Show, don’t tell. An EU investor told us: “I’m looking for tangibility, co-benefits, concrete impact. That’s what is going to reassure us”. That’s why having killer 📈 at the front of the pitch is great - there’s plenty more excellent advice in this article we’ve selected (see comments) ----- 3. The Buyers: Climate and Sustainability Directors No pushy commercial pitch! The Sustainability Director from a big US entertainment company told us: 💚 “People are constantly trying to sell us stuff, I prefer educational comms, explainer 🎥, thought leadership.” 💚 Better, simpler, shorter digestible material to share internally. “In the back of my mind, I’m thinking about whether the idea can be sold internally.” she added “ I understand climate, but my internal stakeholders don’t. These are super bright people who have very busy and stressful jobs and are looking for solutions that are going to make them a little less stressed and make them look good.” 💚 Making it tangible and real. The climate director of a West Coast company told us “ There’s so much greenwashing around. I look for things we can see with our own eyes, such as pilot plant visuals or satellite images. Buzz words and jargon lose me very fast”. ----- Did this make you think? Do share! #climatepitch #climateinvestment

Let's just say the Energy Intelligence Forum 2024, in Luxury Raffles hotel, with posh catered lunch courtesy of Aramco and MUCH security bouncers everywhere, was a far cry from our Climate Tech world operating in the back of the lab with coffee in paper cups. I attended panels on #decarbonization and #methane emissions (shocking topic) and met "in real life" the great Jason Hochman from the Direct Air Capture Coalition.

Love this video - great to see such a recognized scientist explain the opportunity so clearly and compellingly. @climateagency @arca #mining #carbonremoval
Carbon dioxide removal is a game-changing opportunity for mining. 🌎 Through the natural process of carbon mineralization, certain types of mine waste can absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere and transform it into rocks, storing it for more than 10,000 years. Arca accelerates this process and enables both active and closed mines to become massive carbon sinks. With 3.1 gigatonnes of suitable mine waste being produced annually, this is a multi-billion-dollar opportunity for the mining industry. A great substack from Jason Grillo with climate impact from State by State US election results and thoughts about reframing #carbonremoval conversation from a climate technology to a ‘maintech’ solution that integrates with economic policy. https://lnkd.in/eJfYCpDq

👀 Great to see Alithic's exciting and mega efficient approach to carbon removal with inbuilt sequestration come to life with their new website. Starting with our Stratcom workshops, we created a unique identity, then designed and copywrote the site. The design gives a nod to the construction industry to highlight that the CO2 is permanently stored in a byproduct that can be used as low carbon cement. 🏗️ 🏙️ Thanks to Quentin Philippe for trusting the approach! #carbonremoval #inbuiltsequestration

🎉 Great to see Carbon Impact France launch its new site and identity. We partnered with founders Karim Rahmani and Alexander Schnell on their strategy, before translating it into a new logo, design and copywriting. The result: a site that balances clarity with depth of information, telling a strong story on the necessary capture of CO2 from biomass and biogas plants across Europe 🇪🇺 #nextgenerationbiomass #biomass #biogas #beccs #carboncapture #greenlocalvalue #scaling #carbonsolutions

Strategy first. Cool exhibition stand later - but fast. That new branding for The Carbon Removers did pack a punch at the Nordic Biogas Conference.
