From the materials we use, to the designs and robotic process – everything is centred on our ability to leave a lighter footprint on our planet. When are the UK Gov going to integrate 3D Concrete Printed Homes? A viewing of the recently completed 3D printed social housing scheme in Dundalk took place yesterday. The event was an opportunity for those interested in future developments to view the finished homes before occupation. The development for Louth County Council and built by B&C Contractors LTD marks the first scheme of its kind built in Ireland, through partnership with Harcourt Technologies Ltd and Roadstone. Six commercially licensed products are now produced in the UK, and there’s been an increase in licensed facilities and full-time employees in the sector 🧬 Compound Semiconductor Applications (CSA) Catapult has shared a new report, produced by Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, highlighting the Catapult’s significant economic impact, having added over £600m GVA to the UK economy, created or safeguarded 4,718 jobs, and boosted productivity by up to £86m through its R&D projects and collaborations 📈 Connected Places Catapult has supported seven West Midlands clean tech firms through the DIATOMIC India Accelerator programme, aimed at fostering innovation and commercial opportunities between India and the West Midlands. The BBC recently published its Top 100 Women list, highlighting incredible female talent. It made me think about our portfolio and the businesses we’ve invested in that are led by inspirational women. Sabrina Del Prete of Kore Labs and Daniela Amodei of Anthropic are two great examples. Yet with only 16.3 per cent of high-growth tech companies led by women (according to Beauhurst) and just 8.96 per cent of equity investment going to female-led businesses since 2013, increasing diversity in the tech sector is something that needs to be addressed. Change is happening, but it feels slow. In the recent One to Win pitch competition hosted by TechWM, we were delighted to see female founders take centre stage. This groundbreaking competition showcased some of the incredible talent and innovation that is making the West Midlands tech scene so exciting. Rigby Group plc and SCC were delighted to back One to Win, which provided a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to raise their profile and secure support to grow.
