  • For autistic people, people with a learning disability, and mental health needs, the world can sometimes feel isolating, especially when restrictive interventions are used instead of therapeutic practices that truly support their growth.    But we believe in a different way- one that sees the person as a whole, beyond the 'diagnosis'. With frameworks like PROACT-SCIPr-UK® and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), we replace restriction with connection, using strength-based and therapeutic approaches to support people in building confidence, developing new skills, and thriving within their communities. 💡 Let’s create a future where every person feels valued, supported, and free to live their best life. ▶️ Watch the video and join us in making this vision a reality. • L is a bright and determined young girl who loves learning and being part of her school community. Living with spina bifida and complex health needs, she needed more support to fully participate in school and enjoy everyday activities. When Nurseline Community Services provided a compassionate Registered General Nurse (RGN), everything fell into place. The nurse’s care during school hours meant L could attend full-time, try swimming for the first time, and avoid hospital visits. For L’s mum, it was life-changing too. She could return to work, care for her baby son, and feel at ease knowing her daughter was safe and thriving. L’s story is a reminder of the impact compassionate, expert care can have—not just on people but on entire families. Read more here ▶️ https://lnkd.in/dNWCeG7d

  • This Human Rights Day, let’s shine a light on a truth we often overlook: every person deserves to leave the hospital with dignity, hope, and a plan for the future. For many autistic people and people with learning disabilities, this isn’t the reality. Misunderstood behaviours, lack of support, and delayed discharges can turn a temporary stay into months or even years away from home. Imagine the frustration, the isolation, the longing to belong again. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Every discharge should be a fresh start, grounded in these unshakable rights: ✨ The right to be heard – Informed consent is more than paperwork; it’s empowerment. ✨ The right to privacy – Trust begins with protecting their story. ✨ The right to dignity – Respecting their humanity, not just their needs. ✨ The right to quality care – Ensuring support doesn’t end at the hospital door. Let’s commit to doing better. Together, we can create a system where every person feels seen, valued, and supported as they take the next step in their journey. 📝Are we asking the right questions? Jodee Simpson, our Speech and Language Therapist, shares her reflections as a parent on the importance of context in recognising emotions. When her son was young, she thought he was feeling angry because of the way he expressed himself, but it turned out he was feeling something else entirely. ‘’We’re often told to label the emotions we see, but this can be a problem with autistic people because their facial expressions might not match what we think the emotion is." - Jodee S.
