Brilliant, easy-to-find, and a staple of winter stargazing, the Pleiades or ‘Seven Sisters’ never fail to impress. The cluster’s ‘Seven Sisters’ nickname comes from Greek Mythology. The names of the most prominent stars: Electra, Taygete, Maia, Celaeno, Alcyone, Sterope, and Merope were the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione, according to Greek lore. The best time to observe the Seven Sisters in the Northern Hemisphere is from October to March.
