In 2021, NASA created the "Send Your Name to Mars" campaign – offering people around the globe the chance to have their names taken to Mars on the Perseverance Rover. The response was overwhelming, with 10,932,295 names submitted. Now, those names rove the surface of Mars, etched onto three fingernail-sized chips aboard Perseverance. The closest star to Earth is our very own Sun, at around 93,000,000 miles away (150,000,000 km). But what about beyond the Sun? The next closest star, Proxima Centauri, would be around 25,300,000,000,000 miles (39,900,000,000,000 kilometers) away – demonstrating how vast the expanse of our universe really is. Mind = blown 🤯

Brilliant, easy-to-find, and a staple of winter stargazing, the Pleiades or ‘Seven Sisters’ never fail to impress. The cluster’s ‘Seven Sisters’ nickname comes from Greek Mythology. The names of the most prominent stars: Electra, Taygete, Maia, Celaeno, Alcyone, Sterope, and Merope were the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione, according to Greek lore. The best time to observe the Seven Sisters in the Northern Hemisphere is from October to March. They’re visible during the same months in the Southern Hemisphere, but they will appear lower in the sky. Share your snaps with us using the hashtag #Castronomy 🌌
