About us
Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service (CCVS) is an independent registered charity, set up by local organisations as an infrastructure and network organisation to empower community and voluntary groups in Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire and Fenland. We have three key objectives Representation: We act as a voice for voluntary groups in our area, contributing to all the major committees and partnerships that meet to determine public policy and action in Cambridge, South Cambridgeshire and the County Networks: We bring groups together and provide the support for themed and geographical networks Organisational Development: We provide training and one to one help and support for community and voluntary groups to become stronger and more sustainable.

Ho Ho Ho! 🎅 We hope everyone is doing well and gearing up for a fantastic Christmas break. Let's take a look back at our highlights from this year! 🎉 Digital Inclusion Network Meetings: February: Beverley Young from Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough inspired us with their campaign to end digital discrimination. Sue Keogh and Deborah Katznelson shared heartfelt stories about the digital challenges older people face. Susan Gowling updated us on SustainableTech4Good 's brilliant digital inclusion work. May: Sally Page brought us exciting digital funding news, and Will Plant introduced Connecting Cambridgeshire’s new Digital Inclusion Delivery Plan. Dr. Joyce Coker enlightened us on the impact of digital technology on mental health, and Catherine Sharman from Reed discussed supporting digitally excluded jobseekers. September: Zoe Amar shared key insights from The Charity Digital Skills Report. Charlotte Lewis emphasised the importance of creating age-friendly communities and accessible digital skills support. 💡 Cambs Digi Fest: Building Healthier Communities: Karen Igho, Dr. Joyce F. Coker, and Dr. Alison Tingle showed us how digital inclusion can enhance health services and mental health, especially for older adults. Empowering Families: Prof. Simeon Yates and Dr. Emma Stone discussed the Minimum Digital Living Standard. Rachel Bennett and Stacy Bainbridge shared touching stories from The Red Hen Project, highlighting the need for community support and a balanced approach to digital and face-to-face services. Social Media Accessibility: Thiago Carmo and Allana Grant from Passion4Social CIC gave us fantastic tips including using ALT text, captions, and accessible fonts. AI for Small Charities: Flóra Raffai wowed us with how tools like ChatGPT and Canva can save time and boost our work. 🎊 Cambridgeshire Digital Partnership 2024 Round-up: On December 4th, we gathered at the Meadows Community Centre with the wonderful Connecting Cambridgeshire for an amazing in-person event filled with interactive sessions, networking, and insightful discussions. A special shoutout to Immy Black from Digital Poverty Alliance for her enlightening presentation on digital inclusion and the Tech 4 Young Carers initiative in Cambridgeshire. Managing Challenging Behaviour when working with volunteers Wednesday 22 January 2025 10:00 am - 1:00 pm Oasis Centre, 3 Saint Michael's Avenue, Wisbech, PE13 3NR Who is it for? The training is for anyone who manages volunteers and others and spends time trying to deal with challenging behaviour. What is it about? Some volunteers can create a difficult environment for others through their behaviour. Perhaps they are disruptive, unreliable, inappropriate or even aggressive. By the end of the session, you’ll have a better idea of how challenging behaviour develops, how can you address it and how can you seek to resolve it. What will I learn? Key causes of disagreement between people People’s different approaches to conflict Dealing with angry people Negotiation/mediation skills What is required to resolve a conflict What to expect A combination of presentation and group work. At the end of the session there will also be the opportunity to network over a light lunch with the other community groups attending. Who is hosting?
