It was a pleasure to attended the 2024 Natural Stone Awards by Stone Federation Great Britain on Friday, and to see the quality of stonework carried out throughout Great Britain. Congratulations to all the winners and commendations. We are thrilled that our collaboration with NOVOCASTRIAN on The Hagstone Tables collection was highly commended in the Art in Stone category. Thank you to the Stone Federation Great Britain and their judges for awarding the commendation. We are already looking forward to next year's awards. #naturalstone #awards #stonefurniture #shiningstonesofbritian #britishstone

Last week, Britannicus Stone had the privilege of attending the Stone Federation Great Britain's 'Stone Heritage Conversation'. A highlight of the evening was Sandy Wright's presentation of Wright & Wright Architects' work on St John’s College, Oxford, particularly the stone selection process for the supporting columns of the quadrangle. Their choice of Britannicus' Swaledale Fossil followed rigorous testing to ensure its suitability for the demanding load-bearing role. Special thanks to Bernard Burns (Chair of the Stone Heritage Group & Szerelmey), who supported Wright & Wright on this project and the stone selection process. Britannicus Director Simon Hunter joined a panel discussion on ‘Uncovering the UK’s Forgotten Stones’ with Clara Willett (English Heritage) and Graham Briggs (Historic Environment Scotland). The discussion focused on reviving forgotten UK quarries that once played a vital role in building stone supply and remain crucial today for heritage conservation and restoration. The evening also featured a thought-provoking panel discussion with Sandy Wright, Clara Willett, and Jamie Coath (Purcell) exploring the ongoing debate between restoration vs conservation. It was a fantastic evening, celebrating British stone, its heritage applications, and its future! A huge thanks to Matt Robb and the Stone Federation Great Britain.

We love the way that Chris Hopkinson has captured our #StoneTapestry installation at Clerkenwell Design Week. Even months later, we're still getting such encouraging feedback from the piece that was created as a collaborative project between Stone Federation, Squire and Partners, Webb Yates Engineers, The Stonemasonry Company Limited, Albion Stone plc, Britannicus Stone, Dunhouse Quarry Ltd, Hutton Stone Co Ltd and Tradstocks - Scottish Stone. #ChooseNaturalStone #BritishStone #Architecture #CDW2024 #Design
Let's get stoned. A short video showing the stone installations at Clerkenwell Design Week. British stone suppliers Albion Stone plc and Hutton Stone Co Ltd have commissioned architectural practice Artefact to design a 3-metre high installation consisting of six pillars called Brick From A Stone which will appear on Clerkenwell Green. Both companies have invested in state-of-the-art machinery to turn ‘unloved stone’ into stone bricks that have a quarter of the carbon footprint of traditional clay-fired bricks. Stone Federation Great Britain is the trade association for the natural stone industry who are passionate about promoting natural stone as THE sustainable material of choice for architects, designers and specifiers. This year, they’ve collaborated with leading architecture practice, Squire & Partners alongside Webb Yates Engineers and The Stonemasonry Company Limited to create Stone Tapestry; a unique natural stone showcase created using British stones from Albion Stone, Britannicus Stone, Dunhouse Quarry Ltd, Hutton Stone and Tradstocks - Scottish Stone. Hopefully as stone proliferates, and I progress, I'll get the opportunity to shoot more stone based projects, and visit the quarries and masons, showing the journey of the material. The more accessible and readily available sustainable materials are, the better! Steve Webb Pierre Bidaud #stone #architecturelovers #clerkenwelldesignweek

This year was the first year that Stone Federation Great Britain exhibited at Clerkenwell Design Week and it was, without a doubt a huge success. The response to the #StoneTapestry was incredible and I couldn’t let the moment pass without doing a bit of ‘live demonstration’ on the compressive strength of #NaturalStone. I also had the privilege of chairing our Stone Tapestry: Stone Rediscovered seminar on the Clerkenwell Design Week Main Stage alongside Tim Gledstone, Chloe Newmann, Pierre Bidaud, Michael Poultney, Marcus Paine and Simon Hunter. A massive thank to Alexandre Bertrand, Yan Boyfield the team at The Stonemasonry Company Limited for expertly constructing the #StoneTapestry, and to the rest of the project team (Squire and Partners, Webb Yates Engineers, Albion Stone plc, Britannicus Stone, Dunhouse Quarry Ltd, Hutton Stone Co Ltd and Tradstocks - Scottish Stone) for their part in delivering such a unique #NaturalStone showcase. #CDW2024 #ChooseNaturalStone #StoneTapestry #Architecture #Design A huge thank you to the Stone Tapestry

What a great initiative form Dezeen to talk about #stone in modern #construction. I hope the series will be informative and a good conversation starter on the incredible low carbon foot print of stone. https://lnkd.in/eNuSJD77
