Powerful Coffee. Powerful Impact.

About us

POWERFUL COFFEE = POWERFUL IMPACT We make deliciously strong coffee with a kick! Blue Turaco is the first coffee brand in the UK that is owned by an African farmer; we’re proud of that. And even prouder of our Robusta coffee; it’s strong, smooth and naturally contains double the caffeine of Arabica – quite the kick-start to your day. Blue Turaco founder, Wycliffe, is a coffee farmer. He picked coffee beans as a boy to pay for his school fees so he knows how growing quality coffee improves livelihoods in farming communities. We bring you 100% specialty Robusta, sourced directly from Ugandan smallholder farmers including our own. And 20p from every pack provides two school lunches, helping fight hunger in Ugandan village schools. Our vision is to create a model where coffee truly pays in farming communities. Let’s go! • Who else has the coffee grinder in the photo? At least 2 members of the Blue Turaco team have this coffee grinder. This photo is of Rosie's, taken in her kitchen. Nice sticker. It is a good, solid choice. We got to talking about what our favourite coffee grinders are. Wild chats, we know. Our Top 3 coffee grinders are now on our blog - link in comments. What grinder do you use? And do you have a dream machine? 💙 #specialtycoffee #robusta #coffeemerch #smallbusiness

  • Basically, no rest! The calendar of a smallholder coffee-farmer. The Robusta coffee harvest in Uganda happens twice a year. April - June and October - December although, of course, it's nature, so these periods stretch somewhat. The harvests involve lots of work. Wycliffe is in the middle of it as we speak. And when the harvest is done, there will be much more to do.... Pruning Bending Clearing Maize! Beans Sweet potatoes And more. • 📣 Wish us LUCK! We are beyond excited and a touch nervous to be a Future of Food finalist. This means that today, we are pitching in front of judges to win £10k today. Our 1 minute pitch is ready! 🎤 Wycliffe has taken a detour from the harvest for the first time to attend especially. And…. Robusta is the future Wish us luck 🤞 * Future of Food Competition is run by Barney😜 Mauleverer and is a competition for food entrepreneurs shaping tomorrow’s future. Link in comments

  • Like the buffet table at a party. This was our conclusion after talking to Wycliffe about how his coffee picking is going in Uganda. 🍒 You see, the coffee harvest spans a couple of months and not all coffee cherries will ripen at the same time. 😋 There will be a period, towards the beginning of the coffee harvest, where the bulk of the cherries will be ripe at the same time - that’s when you do the bulk of the picking (some 40% or so, Wycliffe estimates). This will be your main helping. 😋 After that, you go back in for a “nibble”... maybe 10% one week, another 10% the next… It's like the buffet table at a party; you have your main helping, but who doesn’t go back for a nibble? 😇 You probably sneak in a little nibble before the main helping, let's be honest. This happens in coffee picking too, to collect those early bloomers. Wycliffe is in Uganda picking coffee cherries with fellow smallholder farmers right now, in between bursts of rain. More soon. Let's go! 💙 #robusta #coffeeharvest #specialtycoffee #smallholderfarmers #startup

  • Imagine walking for kilometres on an empty stomach... and then having to do maths! That was Wycliffe’s personal experience as a child growing up in a remote coffee-growing village in Uganda. Childhood hunger in these villages puts children off facing the long walks to school and means they can’t concentrate if they get there. 🥣 That’s why every pack of coffee we sell, buys 2 meals for schools where our coffee is grown; that’s a day’s-worth of food for a child. 🥣 We’ve purchased over 27000 school meals since the start of Blue Turaco Coffee. 🙏 THANKS to anyone who has purchased our coffee or liked or shared a post to amplify our mission! 💡And… we’ve just added the option to purchase additional school meals directly on our site when you’re buying your coffee.
