Enhancing the welfare, conservation and protection of an iconic British species, their setts and their habitats.
About us
We’re the voice for badgers in England and Wales. Since our beginnings in 1986 as the National Federation of Badger Groups, our purpose has been to enhance the welfare, conservation and protection of this iconic symbol of the British countryside. Although by law they’re one the UK’s most protected species, modern badgers face more threats than ever - from road traffic accidents and culling, to wildlife crimes and habitat loss. We educate and inform the public, police and fellow conservation agencies on these issues, while our network of over 50 local voluntary groups carry out frontline work in the community. Inspiring a love for badgers is at the heart of all we do. NEW ARTICLE: Why Badger Vaccination won’t save the badger Badger vaccination has been sold as a panacea to saving the lives of badgers from the ineffective badger cull. Indeed, the recent catchy slogan from the government for their ‘badger vaccinator field force’, would imply that vaccination can put a ‘force field’ around badgers' lives. Are they suggesting that after 11 years of government-sanctioned culling, this government field force will be the badger army that badgers have been waiting for to save them? But Star Trek-shaped heroes out to save badgers aside, will vaccination with the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine save the badger? And if so, from what? Read our article exploring the difference between fantasy and fact and if badger vaccination really is the golden egg we have all been waiting for or if the issue is far more complex than a government re-brand would imply. >> https://buff.ly/4hJDVBS Please read and share
