Growing up, I was inspired by my mother, a care worker who built her own business from the ground up—a story that shaped my passion for commercial law. Despite my determination, I struggled to secure interviews and felt held back by imposter syndrome. Through the 10,000 Black Interns programme, I completed a six-week internship at one of my top firms, where I gained not only experience but the confidence to succeed. That opportunity led to a training contract at an elite US firm in London, turning my dream of becoming a solicitor into reality. The 10,000 Interns Foundation has launched the careers of over 7,000 Black university students and graduates across 35+ industries since 2020. I first became fascinated by FinTech during my second year studying Finance. Thanks to the support of the 10,000 Foundation, I secured a degree apprenticeship in InsureTech, working for an insurance company in the growing bulk purchase annuity market. I'm a proud south London girl raised by a community that always encouraged me to find my voice. But even after landing a permanent role through my internship through the 10,000 Black Interns programme, self-doubt crept in. Did I really belong? I thought I'd conquered those feelings, but the challenge was realising they might always come back. Now, armed with a support system and a healthy dose of self-reflection, I'm ready to face any doubts head-on. I'm grateful to 10KBI for helping me build the life I've always dreamed of. Growing up with few educators who looked like me or shared my experiences led to self-doubt about my ability to teach and support students. But through the 10,000 Black Interns programme, I discovered I could make a real difference in this field. My internship at UCAS opened my eyes to the behind-the-scenes work of access and participation in higher education. Now, I'm working to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in university, ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive. I'm proud to be part of a system that empowers the next generation. From a young age, I’ve been driven by one question: How can I make things better? This mindset shaped my journey from studying art and fashion to developing innovative care solutions for children in need. Through the 10,000 Black Interns programme, I gained invaluable experience with the NHS, contributing to historic projects like the "Long Term Plan" and strengthening my vision for my own care initiative, the Karikari Foundation. This experience gave me the clarity, momentum, and confidence to believe in my mission—and to know I can make things better.
