On December 13th, we celebrated our amazing team at the end-of-year Hui, including the much-anticipated Employee of the Year Award! Every member of our team brings something special to Haka House, but this year we were excited to honour one standout individual, Kodi Macdonald, for his exceptional motivation, exemplary drive, and positive attitude. Thank you to our team for another fantastic year. We can't wait to see what the next one brings!

Last #GivingTuesday, we came together to make a difference! At Haka House, we believe in the power of community and giving back. We proudly participated in this global generosity movement by taking part in a Tamaraki gift drive, which is all about sponsoring gifts for children in need. Let’s share the spirit of giving this season!

We recently gathered in person and via video across all Haka House properties to mark a special moment – the conclusion of our mural project with the incredibly talented Māori artists, Charles and Janine Williams. Following the valued Tikanga/cultural protocols, our celebration included a Karakia Mutunga (closing prayer), heartfelt speeches, and a shared meal. It was a profound way to honour the completion of this project and celebrate the rich Māori heritage that inspired it. A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey! At Haka House, it's not just about aesthetics and comfort but also about responsibility. We are immensely proud of our DreamGreen initiative, where we've managed to recycle thousands of plastic bottles into the bedding for our hostels. This is our way of ensuring our guests sleep comfortably while we help protect the planet. In addition to this, we're also excited to share our commitment to the Tourism Sustainability Commitment (TSC) for 2024-2025! As part of our journey with Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA), Haka House is wholeheartedly embracing the 12 Business Commitments to ensure our operations contribute to New Zealand’s goals of economic, environmental, and social responsibility. Through values like Kaitiakitanga (guardianship), Manaakitanga (hospitality), and Whanaungatanga (relationship building), we aim to lead by example in creating a sustainable, resilient future.
