There's still time to make food and toiletry donations to the Auckland City Mission. The HomeGround Auckland’s Angels Drop-Off Zone is open from 12 noon – 6pm, Monday to Friday, at 195 Federal Street until 20 December. In lieu of client gifts, this year, Context will be donating to the Auckland City Mission and regional foodbanks. To all of our clients, suppliers and LinkedIn friends, thank you so much for your support this year. Our studios will be closed from 2pm on Friday, 20 December, and will reopen at 9am on Monday, 6 January 2025. Meri Kirihimete! We look forward to catching up with you next year. #merikirihimete #happyholidays

Congratulations to our client, Soho Group Limited NZ, on the recent completion of Wanaka Street in Whangārei. We were briefed to create a high-quality community with a mix of typologies, including additional accessibility options. The houses have a Homestar 6 rating, ensuring residents will move into sustainable, healthy, and efficient homes. #designforcommunity #designforlife

Thanks for the update Urban Development Institute of New Zealand UDINZ. "The Amendment Act provides an extension to the remediation deadlines for earthquake-prone buildings by 4 years (except buildings with notices that expired on or before 1 April 2024). The extension aims to provide clarity and certainty to building owners and territorial authorities, while the review of the management of seismic risk in existing buildings takes place." If you have a commercial property needing seismic remediation, contact Sean O'Flaherty. We have a team with extensive experience who can expertly guide you through the remediation process. #design #remediation #designforlife
The Building (Earthquake-prone Building Deadlines and Other Matters) Amendment Act came into effect yesterday on 26 November 2024. It includes an extension of remediation deadlines for earthquake-prone buildings, strengthening of the building warrant of fitness scheme and other minor technical changes. Some encouraging stats are included in the inaugural NZGBC Green Star Impact Report. We're heading in the right direction, but there's more to do when it comes to sustainability in the construction sector. Keep up the great mahi team; Context supports all that you do. #sustainabledesign #greenbuildings #designforlife
We are proud to release our first ever Green Star Impact Report - a key document highlighting some of the significant strides made in promoting sustainable building practices across New Zealand, and showcasing some of the incredible mahi being done by industry. For more than 15 years Green Star has supported those occupying and developing New Zealand’s buildings to reduce their impact on the environment, and provide meaningful, comfortable spaces for our people to thrive in. 🏢 - 1.48 million square metres of new buildings and fitouts are now Green Star rated 🏙 - Each week over 70,000 New Zealanders shop at Green Star certified supermarkets, and almost 11,000 students attend schools with Green Star buildings ♻ - The 101 projects that have targeted Green Star’s waste management credit have diverted over 118,000 tonnes of waste from landfill. That’s the equivalent of diverting the annual household waste of 160,000 New Zealanders (or a city the size of Tauranga) ⚡ - Green Star buildings are on average 28% more energy efficient than non-Green Star buildings using the NABERSNZ tool. Check out the full report below, or download it here - https://lnkd.in/gj_q7P2R Thank you to everyone who has contributed both to the report, and to the growing uptake of Green Star certification and sustainable building. The Context fellas scrub up quite well, don't they? Principals Alasdair Hood and Craig Birch are presenting on reimaging New Zealand's cityscapes through remediation, retrofit and adaptive reuse of buildings. Meanwhile, Sean O'Flaherty is manning the stand at the 2024 LAPA (Local Authority Property Association) Conference. Thanks to the Jobs and Skills Hubs team for helping us organise a recent student open day. 30 year 12 and 13 students from six Auckland schools joined us to find out more about pathways into the design industry. We ended the day with an interactive session, asking the students to split into groups and create the perfect bedroom for a teenager. It was great to see that sustainability was a big feature in the designs, with treetop living, solar panels and veggie gardens aplenty. Our favourite was the bedroom on the Moon – well, we did ask them to think laterally, and they certainly did! #designcareers #designforthefuture #designforlife
