About us
Shaping a more sustainable and uplifting built environment across the buildings, neighbourhoods, cities, and landscapes of Aotearoa New Zealand. From early design competitions and small residential commissions Studio Pacific has evolved into an award-winning substantial and creative practice with diverse projects throughout New Zealand. Particular recognition has been given to the studio for working with the arts, urban regeneration, housing, masterplanning and contemporary workspace planning. Studio Pacific undertakes a large range of projects, from small individual furniture items to large projects involving entire new towns. Our small scale work includes new houses, additions and alterations, and retail work. Our larger schemes include large multi-unit residential and commercial buildings as well as masterplans and landscaping. We enjoy having a mix of project sizes and types in the Studio – each project has different challenges and offers varied opportunities for us to express our creativity in response. Collaboration Collaboration is fundamental to the way we work. The Studio fosters a willingness to collaborate with a range of designers, from other architects and landscape architects to specialist fitout designers and other specialist consultants. Creativity We approach every project afresh, and we are actively looking for the unusual design solution or idea that can unlock the design direction. We are open-minded about possible design solutions and search for innovative, progressive and inventive means of achieving design results. Sustainability Studio Pacific is at the forefront of the development of sustainable design in New Zealand and we are committed to sustainability as a central component of contemporary design. Last month, Wool Forward (hosted by Bremworth, T&R Interior Systems and Maxwell Rodgers Fabrics) brought together designers, architects, and policymakers to reimagine the potential of New Zealand strong wool products. Stephen McDougall, one of our Founding Directors and an Ambassador of Campaign for Wool, was in attendance and shared insights into the material’s natural advantages and its essential role in sustainable design: “The collective power of the three businesses was on show cementing their place as market leaders and innovators in the interiors sector. The wool story is very compelling with its naturally embedded magical properties and is a no brainer for our built environment.” From fire resistance to air purification, wool outshines synthetics in every way. The question is, why aren’t we specifying more of it?

We're excited to welcome Eliana Brooking – our TupuToa intern for the 2024/2025 Summer! This year, Eliana is working within LT McGuinness Ltd., an organisation who we have a long-term working relationship with. With LT McGuinness, Eliana will gain hands-on experience on construction sites in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, along with experience in quality assurance and sustainability, building valuable skills for her future in the industry. We’ve likened this arrangement to a kind of whāngai process—rooted in the Māori tradition of collective care and fostering. Just as in whāngai, we maintain a relationship with our intern, but have entrusted her growth and direct support to a close collaborator. Hangar 4 at Auckland Airport is set to redefine aviation maintenance spaces. Currently under construction, this new facility for Air New Zealand was recently highlighted in the NZ Herald. Designed by Studio Pacific Architecture, the hangar will be one of the largest single-span timber structures in the world when completed. The use of sustainably-sourced timber and innovative design ensures the hangar meets the needs of current and next-generation aircraft while delivering improved environmental and operational performance. We were honoured to be invited to celebrate a major milestone at Hōhepa Wellington over the weekend—the opening of four purpose-built homes at their Otaihanga site on the Kāpiti Coast. Studio Pacific Architecture is proud to be involved in the future masterplanning of the Otaihanga site, designing a landscape that reflects the spirit of the community and enhances the beauty of this new development. We look forward to seeing how these homes will positively impact the lives of their residents and the broader community. 🎉 A Major Milestone at Hōhepa Wellington 🎉 On Saturday, we celebrated the official opening of four new homes at our Hōhepa Wellington site in Otaihanga, Kāpiti Coast. As a small disability provider in the Wellington region, these homes have only been possible due to the very generous support of Dorothy Spotswood. Dorothy’s contributions have enabled a number of transformative projects at Hōhepa Wellington since 2018. These four purpose-built homes will allow us to continue offering individualised, holistic support to people with intellectual disabilities — helping each person grow, learn, and reach their full potential. What an amazing celebration it was on Saturday!
