#Water, #wastewater, #sanitation, and their management remain critical challenges in many parts of #Africa, presenting compelling reasons and significant opportunities for (German) companies to introduce innovative solutions and technologies to the region. -> A large number of people still lack access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation services. Rural and remote areas are particularly affected, but also urban growth centers struggle to keep pace with the demands of rapid urbanisation which is prevalent on the continent. At the same time, infrastructure is outdated or inadequate. -> Industrial wastewater is becoming a growing concern, with untreated or poorly treated effluents often discharged directly into rivers and lakes, harming biodiversity, and posing severe risks to ecosystems and public health. ->Climate change is intensifying water scarcity and variability, underscoring the need for sustainable and scalable water and sanitation solutions and integrated management strategies. Collaboration and innovation are crucial. “How Can African-German #Collaboration Drive #Innovation in the #Transformation of Water and Wastewater Management?” At #GABS2024 in Nairobi, I’ll have the privilege of moderating an engaging session on exactly this topic! I’m thrilled to share the stage with an incredible panel of experts from divers backgrounds: Lucy Wanjiku Mutinda SEWAGE Recycling Engineering , Sabine Sibler / German Water Partnership, Solomon Letangule / Kenya Water Institute, and Belete A. Matebe / WILO. Join us for this insightful discussion on December 3rd, from 16:00 to 17:30. I look forward to exploring solutions and exchanging ideas—see you there! I recently travelled to #Uganda with one primary goal: to expand my network and AQUAY 's! Living and working in the East African region, it’s essential to connect with fellow advocates. The benefits of building these relationships are invaluable: gaining access to region-specific opportunities, fostering partnerships with like-minded people, and having a trusted network of experts to refer for projects when you’re unavailable. It’s also a great way to learn from neighbouring countries, stay informed about relevant trends, regulations, and changes, and share knowledge—ultimately, we’re stronger together. During my time in Uganda, I met wonderful colleagues working in both #water and #sanitation as well as in #moderation and #facilitation. The effort was already paying off, with collaboration requests coming in! A special thanks goes to Winifred Nabakiibi Kitonsa, PMP, who graciously introduced me to her network, embracing the belief that we truly can achieve more together. I look forward to more trips to Uganda and to collaborating with these fantastic, like-minded colleagues. #eastafrica #WASH #WRM

I had the pleasure to support #SNV’s Water and Sanitation team in #Tanzania with the designing, planning, and execution of their “WASH SDG Learning Event” held in Dar Es Salaam, including event management (yes, #AQUAY offers the full package!). Alongside my fantastic Co-Facilitator Tine Hemelings and supported by Sarsha Nathoo for event management, we guided approximately 60 participants (coming from government, utilities, private sector, international organisations, and NGOs) through this remarkable 3-day event. It was more than just a series of presentations; the event offered a diverse range of engagement formats, including theatre plays, booth walks, a photo exhibition, presentations in interview style, external virtual input (thanks Sophia Schwer!), and much more. These activities were complemented by stimulating panel discussions, group work sessions, and ample opportunities for networking, learning, and exchange – all capped off with a delightful cocktail networking event. The event was structured around the 3 so-called “pathways” that marked the WASH SDG programme’s approach in Tanzania: Behaviour change campaigns, Service delivery (infrastructure), and governance and institutional frameworks – a threefold approach which I can only recommend to follow. This holistic approach showcased the interconnectedness of these pathways and how they mutually reinforce each other. It became evident that an imbalanced focus on one or two pathways wouldn't yield the same results. The three days flew by, leaving all of us, including the facilitators, with valuable insights. Huge commendations to the SNV team for their efforts throughout the project implementation, culminating in such a vibrant and colourful event! And many thanks to the participants for their active engagement and contributions during the 3 days. My personal highlight? Too many. But I definitely fell in love with a public toilet at a bus stand in Shinyaga. How so? Reach out to the SNV TZ Water team (Olivier Germain, HEZRON MAGAMBO, Leyla Khalifa, Herieth Manyika, and Co.) for the full story! Otherwise, my appreciation of pit emptiers got reconfirmed – they are the best, aren’t they. #sanitation #moderation #ilovemypitemptier
