Under MDD, medical devices were subject to specific standards, but MDR introduces stricter requirements in areas like clinical evaluation, post-market surveillance and traceability. Another challenge is providing adequate training for radiation oncology professionals. With the cancer burden expected to rise everywhere, there’s a critical need for innovative solutions. The Potential of E-Learning Interventions for AI-Assisted Contouring Skills in Radiotherapy (#ELAISA) project, a collaboration between Aarhus University Hospital and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is a shining example. By combining AI-assisted contouring with expert-led training, this international study has demonstrated sustained improvements in contouring skills for radiation oncologists. Here are some highlights: - AI models like MVision AI #Contour+ helped participants learn and retain contouring precision. - Results showed sustained skill enhancements even after 6 months, proving that AI and teaching can work hand-in-hand to revolutionize care. What an amazing experience it was, and one we’ll never forget, as we had the privilege of meeting such brilliant people in Yokohama as part of #JASTRO2024!
