Last week on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the inauguration of Metsä Group's bioproduct mill in Kemi was celebrated. The Kemi bioproduct mill represents the largest investment in Metsä Group's history, valued at approximately two billion euros. The bioproduct mill produces 1.5 million tons of softwood and hardwood pulp annually, which is used to manufacture various renewable products such as cardboard, tissue paper, specialty papers, and printing paper. In addition to pulp, the bioproduct mill will significantly increase the production of co-products, namely tall oil, turpentine and bioenergy. Flootech was responsible for delivering, installing and put into operation a water intake plant, water treatment plant, demineralized water treatment plant and condensate polishing for the bioproduct mill, helping Metsä Fibre achieve high resource efficiency and product quality as well as energy and environmental targets. We are very pleased to have partnered with Metsä Group in building this bioproduct mill, which stands as a global leader in energy, resource, and environmental efficiency. Flootech and Valmet have on May 23, 2024, signed a partnership agreement to further enhance collaboration in providing advanced water treatment solutions. Through the partnership Flootech will provide profound technical and commercial expertise to Valmets customers. The offering will include water treatment and recycling solutions, process water treatment, effluent treatment and reuse as well as sludge dewatering. “There is a growing requirement for more advanced solutions to enhance clean water quality, process water recycling and fiber recovery, to treat and extract energy from wastewater, as well as to champion the reuse of water. Costs associated with the environmental impact and regulation, sourcing fresh water, and the growing price of energy have all increased the importance of optimizing pulp and paper mills’ water cycle and water footprint.
