The Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) is a multi-stakeholder initiative whose mission is to catalyse the power of collective action to drive the world’s transition to deforestation- and conversion-free agricultural commodities. Housed within the World Economic Forum, TFA brings together governments, companies, financial institutions, and civil society organisations to accelerate progress in decoupling agriculture production from deforestation and ecosystem conservation. The TFA network, through its 160 partners, brings together experts from around the world to transform ideas into effective actions in key agricultural markets, including Brazil, Indonesia, and China. Explore our priorities and geographic focus for the next 3 years in the graphic below. #Deforestation #SupplyChains #TropicalForests #Commodities

Tropical Forest Alliance focuses primarily on the value chains associated with globally-oriented companies, based on the assumption that this will ultimately drive change in the production model in key regions. During TFA’s lifetime, there has been significant progress from the private sector, with collective efforts creating a pre- competitive space for companies to work together to address deforestation. This has been coupled with deeper engagement from the financial sector. There has also been an increase in public sector action, particularly in demand-side countries. In this report, explore some of the highlights of TFA's work, as well as our approach and planned activities for the next 3 years. #Deforestation #SupplyChains #TropicalForests #Commodities

Since the Tropical Forest Alliance (TFA) was established in 2010, our focus has been primarily on supporting the implementation of private sector commitments to halt deforestation. In that timeframe, there has been substantial progress in addressing conversion and deforestation in their supply chains - although nowhere near enough. And while nature and food systems weren’t particularly visible at COP29 in Baku, #COP30 will take place in the Amazon rainforest – one of the world’s most important ecosystems and home to a large amount of Brazil’s cattle and soy production. This provides global leaders with a unique opportunity to make real, lasting action on food systems and nature-based solutions. In support of these outcomes, TFA will be focusing on a range of strategic priorities over the next three years. Explore them in this article ⬇️. #Deforestation #Commodities #SupplyChains #COP30

Deforestation in the Amazon is costing Brazilian farmers. Without trees to circulate moisture, the land is getting hotter and drier. In the most deforested regions (with more than 80% of the forest cleared), rainfall fell by 40% in the soybean season and 23% in maize season. Maximum air temperatures also increased by 2.5°C over the same period (to 32.5°C). This is leading to reduced crop yields and resulting economic losses (totalling $1bn between 2006 and 2019) - and also poses a danger to global food security. By 2050, the report estimates that all types of farmers are expected to face even harsher conditions, and may lose up to $1bn a year. But preventing further deforestation in Brazil’s southern Amazon could slow the trend. https://lnkd.in/dbcmfy2q #Brazil #Amazon #Rainforest #Deforestation #Farmers #SupplyChains

COFCO International continues to supply deforestation-free soybeans from Brazil to China. This second batch of soybeans were produced as a rotational crop at COFCO International’s sugar plantations in São Paulo state, Brazil. Crop rotation is a regenerative agriculture practice which improves soil health, boosts yields, and reduces emissions by minimising use of synthetic fertilizers. The CGF's #ForestPositive Coalition, WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Soft Commodities Forum, and Tropical Forest Alliance, have come together to push #LandscapeInvestment in Brazil’s #Cerrado through our recently launched Sustainable Landscapes Partnership. This collaboration unites companies across the commodity value chain to drive landscape-level impact by addressing key challenges like native vegetation conversion to ensure positive outcomes for nature, climate, people and business By actively engaging downstream companies and midstream agri-businesses, this Partnership sets a powerful precedent for creating forest-positive solutions in critical ecosystems. ➡️ Learn more about the partnership here: https://lnkd.in/e3_-se22 #SustainableAgriculture #EcosystemRestoration Proforest, ADM, Bunge, Louis Dreyfus Company, Cargill, COFCO Corporation, Viterra

🤝 Last week, Trase co-hosted a workshop with the Institute of Science and Development at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASISD) in #Beijing on Science and Data to Support Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains. The event was attended by representatives from leading universities and NGOs and facilitated by World Economic Forum’s Tropical Forest Alliance. 🔍 The Trase Global Engagement Lead - André Vasconcelos and Trase Senior Researcher - Mark Titley, presented new data and analysis on risks and opportunities in international commodity supply chains linked to #deforestation, #biodiversity loss and food security, which can help to identify pathways towards greener supply chains. 🌿 Reflecting on the trip André Vasconcelos said: “Through the Glasgow Forest Declaration and bilateral cooperation agreements like the Brazil-China joint statement on combating #climate change, governments have committed to working together to facilitate the transition to more #sustainable supply chains. 🌳 “Collaboration events such as this session co-hosted with CASISD are crucial for fostering discussions and exploring how data and cutting-edge research can support the delivery of these ambitious goals. We were extremely pleased with the valuable opportunity for Trase to exchange expertise and ideas to help progress the green supply chain agenda.”

This week, at the annual meeting of the Tropical Forest Alliance in Latin America, we reviewed the achievements and challenges of the platform and of each of the Zero Deforestation Agreements. The event highlighted how the coordination of efforts between public and private sectors, civil society, and international cooperation is key to achieving our biodiversity and climate goals. Some of the main highlights included: • Potential contribution to the Biodiversity Action Plan and the NDC goals. • Significant progress in the livestock (meat and milk), cocoa, palm oil, avocado, and coffee value chains towards compliance with zero deforestation commitments. • Strengthened dialogue and cooperation in multi-stakeholder platforms, which are fundamental tools for the transformation of food systems. Multi-stakeholder platforms are a key way to generate consensus, scale innovative solutions, and build a more resilient future for people and the planet. Colombia has been a pioneer in this type of institutional arrangement. Over the past 7 years TFA has worked with palm oil, cocoa, beef, milk, coffee, timber, and Hass avocado supply chains to fight against deforestation. It has supported capacity building, governance and influence in public policy, monitoring and traceability, and communications and dissemination of zero deforestation agreements. Tropical Forest Alliance is proud and grateful to all of the entities and people who have been involved in this work, and who are part of the Zero Deforestation Agreements Colombia has delivered during this time.
