Cauma Group is pivoting! No not away from software rollups. But we are A LOT wiser on how to build one, compared to a year ago 😉 https://lnkd.in/dF8Uf_j3

3 thoughts on building Cauma - 6 months in: 1. A robust origination playbook is absolutely paramount 📖 It’s helpful to have a thesis a priori. Still, nothing beats the insight gained from speaking to business owners. I went 180 on two of my highest conviction ideas after 3 months of intense research. Pipeline, script, outreach sequence: I tweak them every day to maximize conversion. Sourcing is a numbers game. I started out with a 5K longlist, which I whittled down to a shortlist of 1.1K names. 21% response rate on cold outreach. 50% agreed to a call. And so on. 2. The SaaS M&A market is WAY too crowded 📈 …and is teeming with search founders and HoldCo builders. $2M ARR Eastern European business hiring US brokers. There is a growing number of distressed opportunities - but unless you’re a turnaround specialist and/or have a larger platform, you may start with an easier deal 3. Dust it off - and try again 😥 I have a handful of folks I soundboard with all the time: experienced rollup builders and investors. Outside-in perspective is very helpful, especially at times when the pipeline is a bit low. Can you relate to these experiences? Alex
