Alpes Lasers, set up by Jerome Faist, Antoine Muller and Mattias Beck in 1998, was the first company to commercialise quantum cascade lasers (QCLs); robust and powerful devices for gas spectroscopy, in-vivo imaging, medical applications, dental applications, communications, industrial applications and defensive countermeasures. Here's a throwback to the 1994 scientific report by Faist et al. which introduced QCLs to the world: https://lnkd.in/djQMYiX #photonics #lasers #sensing

Info
Alpes Lasers is a Swiss engineering company and leader in the development of optoelectronic devices in the Mid-Infrared (MIR) and Near-Infrared (NIR) range. From our central location within Switzerland and Europe, we are dedicated to promoting these technologies to customers active in a wide range of markets. Alpes Lasers offers a wide selection of products and services in the photonics and optoelectronics domain. Alpes Lasers specialises in the development of Cascade Lasers, and was the first company to commercialise Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). QCLs are used in various applications such as gas detection, medical applications and infrared countermeasures (DIRCM). IR light sources are of particular interest since almost all substances have strong molecular fingerprints in the IR spectral region. IR sources are therefore used in a wide range of applications from clinical diagnostics to environmental and industrial quality control. Alpes Lasers aims to maintain its leading position in the IR photonics & optoelectronics industry. With a large R&D team and over 300 years of cumulative experience in QCL development and microelectronics, Alpes Lasers is involved in numerous research projects for both the European union and the US government, regarding the development of novel photonics applications. Many of these potential applications are not yet fully exploited and several multinational partners, especially in the large consumer electronics, rely on us to identify the most suitable product development strategy and to help them with the fabrication of prototypes and IP protection.

Kick-Off Meeting of Project ForeSight – Improving last-kilometer navigation & transportation in challenging environments. Project ForeSight – Improving last-kilometer navigation & transportation of emergency personnel, equipment and relief items in hazardous and challenging environments Project ForeSight (Horizon Europe Project 101168521), is holding its kick-off meeting in Bonn from October 29-31, 2024, marking a critical step toward advancing disaster response logistics. Led by the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), ForeSight brings together partners across Europe to develop cutting-edge tools that aid first responders in hazardous conditions. The project focuses on enhancing navigation, situational awareness, and logistics in low-visibility environments, such as those impacted by smoke, fog, or dust. A site visit to Germany's flood-affected Ahr Valley underscored the urgent need for ForeSight’s life-saving innovations in emergency response. The 14 partners are: Federal Agency for Technical Relief Gezamenlijke Brandweer Civil Protection of Prefecture of Attica AAHD Acil Ambulans Hekimleri Derneği ETH Zürich Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche CSEM INSAIT - Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology ASTRIAL GmbH Wearin' ALTUS LSA S.A. Alpes Lasers is proud to be a partner in the dAIry 4.0 Horizon Europe project! The dairy industry, vital to the EU economy, faces challenges with rising global demand and CO₂ emissions. Automated Milking Systems (AMS) and Automated Voluntary Milking Systems (AVMS) are vital. AI-driven advancements are needed to enhance efficiency, animal health, milk quality, and feeding strategies. dAIry 4.0 integrates AI, Data, and Robotics to optimize AVMS, reducing environmental impact. It focuses on individual cow health via AVMS and introduces a laser sensor for real-time milk quality analysis. These innovations allow personalised milking, tailored feeding, and milk partitioning by quality, demonstrated in real-world cases. #dAIry40 #Automatedmilking #DairyInnovation
📢 We are thrilled to introduce our next partner – Alpes Lasers Alpes Lasers is a Swiss engineering company pioneering advanced light sources, especially Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs), Inter-band Cascade Lasers (ICL) and Short-Wave IR Laser diodes, used in various applications. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive innovation! 🌟 #dAIry40 #ALPESLASERS #EUfunded #Automatedmilking #DairyInnovation
