The Bank was established on 1 July 1975, through an Act of Parliament (Bank of Botswana Act CAP 55:01) to support the country’s economic development through price and financial stability. The National currency, the Pula banknotes, and Thebe coin were issued into circulation on 23 August 1976, a day now known as Pula Day.
