🌟 𝗧𝗵𝘆𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗮 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗧𝗛𝗞𝗠𝗖) 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 🌟 Our team from THK Family Service Centre @ Tanjong Pagar, led by our social workers Christopher Pang and Ignatius Pereira, presented Happy Kakis Groupwork: A Blended Intervention Approach to Alleviate Social Isolation Among Older Adults at the Asian Family Conference 2024, held on 6 – 7 November 2024 at Marina Bay Sands. The event was graced by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam as Guest-of-Honour. THKMC’s work underscores the importance of holistic, blended interventions in fostering social connectedness and well-being among older adults. The Happy Kakis groupwork programme, launched in 2021, integrates therapies such as Narrative Therapy, Choice Theory, Play Therapy, and Mindfulness, yielding significant improvements in emotional well-being, life purpose, and social connectedness. 𝗧𝗵𝘆𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗮 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (𝗧𝗛𝗞𝗠𝗖) 𝗚𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 🌍 THKMC took the international stage at the 10th International Conference on Social Work in Health and Mental Health, held from 19 to 22 November 2024 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Australia. Our social workers, Christopher Pang and Ignatius Pereira from THK Family Service Centre @ Tanjong Pagar, presented “The Happy Kakis Groupwork: A Blended Intervention Approach to Alleviate Social Isolation Among Older Adults.” This innovative approach identified 11 key values that are instrumental in improving emotional well-being and fostering social connectedness. The presentation showcased how these values have alleviated symptoms of social isolation, provided a renewed sense of purpose, and empowered individuals, including survivors of domestic violence and suicide attempts, to experience life again. The global platform enabled us to share impactful practices while learning from others in the field. Recently, our staff at THK Home for the Disabled @ Sembawang participated in a Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training session. This essential course equips them with vital lifesaving skills, including choking relief and responding to cardiac arrest emergencies. Our nurses, therapists, and direct care staff play a crucial role in managing residents’ well-being, and BCLS training ensures they are prepared to act swiftly and confidently in emergencies.
