As the world gets increasingly digitalised, it's essential that we ensure equal access to opportunities for all, including persons with disabilities. To address this need, we partnered DBS Foundation to launch a bespoke financial literacy programme, tailored specifically for persons with disabilities and their caregivers. The Financial Literacy Curriculum is designed in alignment with the Enabling Skills and Competencies Framework and Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE)’s Special Education schools’ Daily Living Skills (DLS) domain, which focuses on essential areas such as Home Living, Community, and Mobility. The partnership also aims to strengthen support systems by creating resource guides, toolkits, and course materials for trainers, caregivers, special education schools, and others within the ecosystem. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, we work closely with organisations like DBS Foundation to ensure that persons with disabilities can live more independently and have greater access to social and economic opportunities in this fast-changing world. How do we help graduates of Special Education (SPED) schools transition into the workforce? We recently welcomed the 11th intake of our School-to-Work (S2W) Programme to the Enabling Village, where selected graduates and their caregivers had the opportunity to meet with their job coaches and find out more about what to expect for the programme in 2025. Launched in 2014, our S2W was co-developed with the Ministry of Education, Singapore (MOE) and Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore (MSF), paving the way for students with disabilities to transition into the workforce through personalised training pathways and work opportunities. As the disability sector enabler and specialist agency in Singapore, we work with our partners and strive to accord everyone with the dignity of work and gainful employment. We are appreciative of The Ascott Limited’s efforts at promoting and supporting disability inclusion as part of our ongoing partnership! Over the past weekend, they collaborated with the Chelsea Football Club – in Singapore to interact with their fans – which included persons with disabilities. Termed “The Famous CFC”, this international fan engagement event saw Chelsea football legend Gianfranco Zola joining young beneficiaries from the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) for a football coaching clinic, a pre-match dinner enhanced with immersive zones culminating in the auction of three autographed shirts by Zola and award-winning player Cole Palmer. Proceeds were donated to the Goh Chok Tong Enable Fund to support persons with disabilities. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, we are heartened at the efforts taken by our partners to champion disability inclusion and making a difference. A big thank you to The Ascott Limited and the Chelsea Football Club for a fun-filled two days! #InclusiveSociety #EnabledLives #DisabilityInclusion #Ascott #ChelseaFC #FootballForAll

The first step towards being a truly inclusive society comes from understanding the challenges that persons with disabilities face, not only in physical environments but also digital spaces. Working towards digital accessibility is a crucial part of championing disability inclusion. We are proud to have our colleague Kwek Bin, from the Accessibility & Assistive Technology Team, and Lee Lee, our iChamp (Inclusion Champion), contributing to this important cause. Together they provided valuable feedback on GovTech Singapore’s open-source accessibility tool, Oobee, which helps identify accessibility issues on websites. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, we are committed to working closely with our partners to strive for digital accessibility and enable persons with disabilities to live, learn, work, and play more independently. #InclusiveSociety #EnabledLives
“Many people think that just because you're blind, you can't use computers or smartphones.” – Kwek Bin. Meet Lee Lee, a SG Enable Inclusion Champion, and Kwek Bin, a Technology Analyst from SG Enable, as they tell us how people with visual impairments navigate the digital world, and how details like unlabelled buttons pose a challenge for them. Digital services like websites and apps have become integral to our daily lives, and these services must be available to everyone, even those with disabilities. With Oobee, an open-source accessibility tool, we help software development teams identify accessibility issues within websites and applications, so they can build a more inclusive digital experience for individuals with disabilities and seniors. To date, Oobee has helped identify more than 11.9 million accessibility bugs. 👏 Let’s build a #SmartNation where no one is left behind. As we commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we reflect on the Zero Project Asia Pacific Symposium held on 28–29 November. Jointly organised by the Zero Project and SG Enable, the symposium focused on Inclusive Employment, Spaces, ICT, and Inclusive Arts, fostering conversations to eliminate barriers to participation in society. As a sign of commitment to inclusivity, the symposium featured with accessibility features like sign language interpretation, live speech-to-text captioning, and slides designed with larger fonts and easy-to-read language. Trained staff were also available to provide personalised support to guests with disabilities. A key highlight was the signing of a tripartite MOU between the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (REDAS), and SG Enable to advance barrier-free access (BFA) routes and scale-inclusive infrastructure in Singapore. The event also launched the Zero Project Report: Champions of Inclusive Spaces, showcasing global best practices in inclusive design, including Singapore’s Enabling Village and Punggol Regional Library. We were honoured by the presence of Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore (MSF), who engaged with participants and reaffirmed his support for this inclusive vision. On 29 November, participants gained practical learnings as they experienced an Inclusive Spaces Learning Journey, exploring transformed accessible public spaces such as Sentosa, Gardens by the Bay, and Punggol Regional Library. We extend our gratitude to all partners, advocates, and organisations that contributed to the symposium. We hope participants gained valuable insights and are inspired to adopt innovative solutions to enhance inclusivity, productivity, and customer experience. As Singapore’s focal agency for disability and inclusion, SG Enable seeks to position the nation as a beacon of inclusion by bridging global networks and the Asia-Pacific region. Through thought leadership, sustainable innovation, and impactful partnerships, SG Enable continues to champion disability inclusion, and welcomes new advocates to join us on the cause. As the focal agency for disability and inclusion in Singapore, we are delighted to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and the Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (REDAS) to advance barrier-free access routes and scale inclusive infrastructure across Singapore at the Zero Project Asia Pacific Symposium 2024 yesterday. This milestone collaboration reinforces Singapore’s commitment to accessible spaces and urban innovation for persons with disabilities. By building on our ongoing collaboration with SLA, which mapped 1,100km of barrier-free routes accessible through the OneMap app, this partnership with REDAS expands the initiative to include indoor and outdoor routes within private commercial properties. Through geospatial technology and regular user feedback, the partnership ensures that the mapped routes meet the diverse needs of persons with disabilities, fostering greater independence and mobility. SLA, SG Enable, and Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (REDAS) signed a tripartite MOU, each bringing our expertise and resources to the table, in support of the Enabling Masterplan 2030 and United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Key contributions include: 🔹𝐒𝐋𝐀 - Enhancing the #OneMap app with over 1,100 km of barrier-free access (BFA) routes, supporting mobility-challenged users. Plans are underway to extend coverage across indoor and outdoor paths in public and private properties. 🔹𝐒𝐆 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 - Offering expertise in inclusive design and innovation to ensure accessibility meets the needs of persons with disabilities. 🔹𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐒 – Engaging members to identify properties for indoor and outdoor mapping, improving wayfinding for PWDs. Barrier-free access empowers every individual to live independently and thrive. By combining public and private sector strengths, this initiative exemplifies the potential of partnerships to shape a more inclusive Singapore. 🙌 Senior Parliamentary Secretary Eric Chua, Ministry of Social and Family Development, Singapore (MSF) & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) said in his speech: “Through collaborative efforts like these, we can further enable the development of accessible infrastructure, inclusive employment, and supportive communities, empowering persons with disabilities to thrive in every aspect of life.” #BarrierFreeAccess #InclusiveSpaces #ZeroProjectAPAC2024
