T’was a lovely afternoon, tucked in a room in Fernvale. A diverse group of old and young, couples and mother and child pairs. Together with Dr Geraldine and Chloe, we looked at how to build our esteem and did some art therapy exercises. We thank all participants who kept the space safe and Fernvale Youth Network for their invite! Our 3rd tie-up with the National Library Board Singapore and this time we work with the invisible struggles of not just communicating but also sharing joys. With an inter-generational approach, we had structured questions and an art therapy styled workshop to facilitate this! The teens managed their awkwardness to find out more about their senior buddies. The room was filled with stories, colours and joys by the end of the session! The seniors were so taken by their teen buddies many requested a photo to capture that lovely afternoon! Team TTR is warmed by the excitement and that they managed to bring mental health check up and art therapy to the community! What a way to close Mental Health Awareness Month! Caring for the self to care for others. That’s the message St Luke's ElderCare is sharing with the caregivers. These senior caregivers have come a long way in life and are still having to care for someone close to them. Team TTR highlighted different areas to look out for with a series of surveys, movement and craft. The afternoon of laughter, fun and heartwarming sharings from all the seniors made the time a tad too short. Caring for ourselves need not be effortful and yet it is so needed. It was certainly strong start to end in the first ever collaboration between SPH Media and The Therapy Room for a mental health seminar. And we are pleased to share that we had 100% attendance! Titled "Stronger Together: Navigating Emotions in Childhood and Adolescence”where both parents and children learnt concurrently! Divided into two sessions, the first session had parents learning about common disorders and they picked up effective strategies to manage their emotions. At the same time, children parked in a separate room, had the a taster of TTR’s Camp Global®️, with hands-on experience to explore and regulate their emotions. Participants in the second session were treated to a skit performed by students from Kent Ridge Secondary School, followed by a panel discussion with raw feelings and vulnerability from a teen and parents perspective as well as from a clinical and educational perspective. Attendees took away valuable insights and tips on how to support their teen’s journeys effectively.
