About us
The NUSMed Immunology Translational Research Programme aims to understand the role of the immune system in health and diseases. The programme strives to enable the discovery and development of more effective immunotherapy, new treatment guidelines and diagnostic tests for patients with disease-specific problems such as autoimmune and airway diseases, cancer, chronic inflammation, infections and organ/ tissue transplantation. These goals will be achieved by fostering collaborative research and advancing latest technologies to probe immunological mechanisms, and by enhancing infrastructure for clinical translation. Three themes have been identified in this programme which will be supported by shared technologies and cores: 1. Immune homeostasis – to advance understanding the role of the immune system in health and diseases and its regulation. 2. Immunotherapies – to advance and deliver innovative immune-based therapies to patients. 3. The Asian immunophenotype and clinical investigations – to develop and circulate novel approaches to diagnose, guide treatment and measure therapy efficacy.

Excited to share my first corresponding author review article entitled "Pro-resolving lipid mediators and therapeutic innovations in resolution of inflammation", published in Pharmacology & Therapeutics. Read at: https://lnkd.in/eBWPHmeN This was a joint effort with Jianmin Chen where we provided updates in the field of resolution of inflammation using either pro-resolving lipid mediators (lipoxins, resolvins, protectins, maresins) or annexin mimetics. Professor Nicholas Gascoigne and his lab has just published an outreach article in the leading science communication publication, Scientia! Harnessing his decades of CAR T-cell research, he has discovered that CD28-CAR T-cell activation through FYN kinase signalling rather than LCK enhances their therapeutic performance in combating cancer, with the potential of revolutionising cancer immunotherapy as a mode of treatment. Led by Assoc Prof Nguyen Nam Long, researchers from the NUSMED Immunology TRP at #NUSMedicine unexpectedly discovered that an orphan transporter called protein Mfsd7c transports excessive choline out of the blood-#brain barrier, instead of ingesting choline like other organs do. Choline is a micro-nutrient especially needed by the brain and nervous system to regulate memory, moods and muscle control.
