Inspiring young minds, creating new life stories

About us

New Life Stories was established in 2014 to prevent intergenerational incarceration. New Life Stories is an IPC (Institution of Public Character) non-profit organisation that aims to provide children of incarcerated parents with essential reading and pro-social skills to ensure that they are not left behind in their crucial early years of development. New Life Stories has put in place a holistic strategy targeted at providing support to children of the incarcerated and their families. The programmes aim to provide these children with educational and emotional stability so that they can have a fairer start in school. Their parents are also supported by our customised in-prison programmes to prepare them for their release and to give them the reassurance to successfully reintegrate back into society. New Life Stories also educates and guides the families by providing them with essential tools to be self-sufficient.

  • 10 years ago, what started as a simple visit to Changi Prison led to Saleemah Ismail starting up New Life Stories, an organization that aimed to help parents in prison reconnect with their children. Today, we celebrated how far we've come and the many milestones we've achieved through none other than our partners, volunteers, and the families who trusted us with their lives and their stories. Guest-of-honour President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, accompanied by Ms Jane Ittogi, unveiled our new logo and added the finishing touches to a beautiful painting done by our NLS families. With these symbolic brushstrokes, Mr President launched our new community space, our logo and the final book in our Love Beyond the Walls series 🌟 To the families, volunteers, partners and supporters who have made this 10 year milestone possible, thank you from the bottom of our hearts! The journey continues, and we're just getting started 💛 Photos by Ministry of Digital Development and Information #10YearsOfNLS #ADecadeOfImpact #ALifetimeOfChange #LoveBeyondTheWalls

🏆CapitaLand Hope Foundation’s (CHF) Camp Cacti initiative was awarded the prestigious ‘City of Good’ at President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards 2024. Conferred by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who was accompanied by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law Mr Edwin Tong SC, the achievement is a strong recognition of CHF and its charity partners’ collaborative efforts in building resilient, thriving and future-ready children. The award was received by Seng Chai Tan, Executive Director of CHF and Senior Advisor of CapitaLand Investment.    Camp Cacti, a collaborative initiative with Yellow Ribbon Singapore and part of CHF’s CapitaLand Empowerment and Resilience Programme, is a series of holiday camps that aims to help children acquire skills to better manage their emotions, build positive relationships and cope with adversities in their lives. More than 200 children have benefitted from the initiative since its launch in 2022. In 2024, 76% of the participants exhibited an increase in socio-emotional competence in the post-programme self-evaluation survey.   Our giving efforts are augmented as we work together with like-minded partners Yellow Ribbon Singapore, NeuGen Fund, Life Community Services Society and New Life Stories in achieving our shared purpose of creating meaningful change. And a big shoutout to all our community partners, staff and community volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts for Camp Cacti throughout the years!   For more: https://bit.ly/PVPACHF   #EnrichingLives #UpliftingCommunities #BuildingResilience #Philanthropy #CSR

Children with incarcerated parents are almost 3 times as likely to face the criminal justice system once in a lifetime. As a parent of two, this hard truth startled me when we visited New Life Stories (NLS), a non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing intergenerational incarceration, last year, and left an unforgettable mark on me for a long time to come. And this is why I am heartened that for Geneco SG's 2024 festive brand campaign, we have launched 'Till The End of Time' initiative, and collaborated with NLS - in the hope of inspiring all to be part of this initiative and help to rebuild family connections despite their situation, to give their children a fairer start to life. As part of the initiative, we have co-created the book ‘Love Beyond the Walls: Till the End of Time’ together, which is written by inmates under NLS’ programme, illustrated by former inmate artists from CANVAS, and supported by Yellow Ribbon Singapore. This book is a heartfelt collection of 10 stories that convey love and hope from the incarcerated parents to their children. In this video, which we also worked with Our Grandfather Story (OGS) and Singapore Prison Service, we featured one of the incarcerated writers of the book, Faliq, and his heartwarming message to his son. The book is now available for pre-order online, and 100% of proceeds will go directly to New Life Stories to support their Family Strengthening Programme. Together, let’s #PowerTheChange towards building a forever home – one that belongs to all of us. www.tilltheendoftime.sg #Brand #Communications #Marketing #CSR

  • 🎉 We are deeply honored to be recognized as a City of Good Award winner for Camp Cacti! 🏆✨ This award celebrates a unique cross-sector collaboration between CapitaLand Hope Foundation, Life Community Services Society, NeuGen Fund, and us at New Life Stories.
