How can Singapore punch above its weight in Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy, governance, and safety?   In a co-organised workshop with Singapore Connect, held at the San Francisco Bay Area, our IMDA Assistant Chief Executive, Data Innovation & Protection Group, Ms Denise Wong, and IMDA Assistant Chief Executive, Business & Technology Group, Dr Chen Hui Ong shared about the importance of AI safety and governance, and Singapore’s approach on it.   Together with Bay Area AI professionals from the industry and research institutions, we had key discussions about: 🔹 Singapore's approach to building trustworthy AI 🔹 Practical guidance and tools to balance innovation and consumer protection 🔹 The role of government and industry in AI safety 🔹 Growing an ecosystem for AI safety   As AI technology rapidly transforms industries, governments and businesses must work hand-in-hand to ensure that AI is developed, deployed, and used in a responsible, ethical, and transparent manner. The stakes are high—AI's potential is vast, but so are the risks if not properly managed.   Thank you to everyone who made this workshop meaningful and possible. “Film is a medium that has the potential to explore the concept of time through images, especially in relation to the way we understand ourselves." — Singaporean filmmaker, Chris Yeo Siew Hua Discover the story of how two Singaporean filmmakers achieved global success—and how IMDA can help you do the same. 🎬 At IMDA, we’re thrilled to see Singaporean movies taking the world by storm in 2024. Chris Yeo Siew Hua and Si En Tan’s captivating storytelling continue to put Singapore on the map by winning awards at prestigious international film festivals, and through our Media Talent Progression Programme (MTPP), we’ve had the privilege of supporting their journeys. The MTPP is designed to empower local filmmakers by providing them with financial support, mentorship, and access to international networks. It allocates Content Grants for Long-Form (Go-Global, SEA Co-Production, New SG Director) and Short-Form projects, and Overseas Development Grants for selected platforms and events, allowing media professionals across different stages of their careers to work on co-productions, international collaborations, and build a strong portfolio. Inefficiencies in customer service can leave a dent on a brand's reputation. Like many other retailers, Crestar Fan, was struggling with this issue. Founded in 2004, Crestar Fan is a leading Singaporean brand for high-quality cooling solutions. To streamline operations, they adopted the Websentials Omnibot, one of the GenAI-powered chatbot solutions offered in IMDA’s GenAI Sandbox for SMEs Programme, aiming to simplify customer interactions and boost their service team’s efficiency. The results were remarkable — online sales jumped by 80%, man-hours spent on answering customer inquiries were cut by 56% from 18 to just 8 man-hours weekly, and manpower productivity increased by 33%. Crestar Fan’s story shows how GenAI solutions can elevate customer service and fuel impressive business growth. It's a great example of how technology can transform real business challenges into success. 🎮 Once, games were just a fun childhood escape. Today, they’ve evolved into a powerful way to tell stories—our stories. At this year’s Singapore Comic Con (SGCC), four new Made-with-Singapore games made their debut. These games showcased the talent and creativity of our local developers and offer unique perspectives on Singapore's history and culture: 🔸”A Stitch in Time” by Crimson Forge 🔸”Common Wealth” by Team Project Lunch 🔸”Find Lah!” by The Doodle People LLP 🔸”Roachman” by Andas Productions These games were the result of a call-for proposal, seeking innovative game ideas with strong design, gameplay, and Singaporean elements. The selection process included an expert panel of global and local publishers who assessed the commercial potential and provided 1:1 mentorship to help developers refine their prototypes to meet international standards. We saw a surge of visitors to the Made-with-Singapore booth, all keen to try out these new games with a touch of home, brimming with local flavour and stories rooted in our own experiences. Let's support our homegrown gaming scene and dive into these exciting new worlds! #IMDA #IMDigitalArchitect #SGCC
