inspiring conversations that change the world.

About us

1880 is born out of the idea that conversations can make the world a better place. Our goal is to bring together the most interesting and creative personalities in Singapore and create opportunities for them to exchange and cross-pollinate ideas, enjoy exceptional food and drink, and have a really good time. The club in Singapore - a cosmopolitan city with a global role - represents the new wave of members' clubs that have emerged from New York and London. Designed as a space housing both social and work environments, 1880 is created for the people who are shaping the future of Southeast Asia. It is a place and a people united by character, curiosity, and passion, not exclusivity. From the moment you step through our doors, you will be taken out of the ordinary, while still having the comfort of being in your element.

𝟭𝟴𝟴𝟬: 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 I often get asked by friends what I think about 1880 Club in Singapore, which I joined a few months ago—so here you go: 1880 isn’t just a club—it’s a place that feels like home. From the moment you step in, the vibe is warm, inviting, and full of energy. The team working there? Incredible. They pay attention to every little detail, from remembering your favorite drink to making you feel welcome every time. And the food? Always a delight—it never fails to impress. But what really sets 1880 apart are the people. It’s not about networking or collecting business cards; it’s about real, meaningful connections. You meet people who genuinely want to share ideas, support each other, and build friendships that go beyond the surface. ✨ The events are another highlight. Whether it’s a thought-provoking discussion, a creative workshop, or just something fun, there’s always something to look forward to. For me, 1880 is more than just a place—it’s a community where ideas flow, friendships grow, and you leave feeling inspired every time. If you’re looking for a spot that truly gets it, this is it. 🎉 Shoutout to Marc Nicholson for leading such an inspiring community, and a big thank you to Alexa Milan, Leah Arstrand, Qinpei Shiang, and all the amazing waitstaff for always making us feel at home every time we walk through the doors. 1880 Singapore

🌊 "We are so lucky to be 21st-century humans because we have the last, best chance to change the trajectory for our planet." Yesterday at 1880 Singapore, I had the honour of moderating a fireside chat with ‘Her Deepness’, Dr Sylvia Earle. A special event was organised for our Conscious Leaders Circle, co-hosted with Christine Amour-Levar, of HER Planet Earth, and Ocean Geographic Society. Dr Earle has the rare ability to make you believe that anything is possible while grounding every message in actionable hope. A few reflections: 🌊 The Ocean as the Cornerstone Dr. Earle reminded us that the ocean is not just part of Earth’s ecosystem—it is its cornerstone. It regulates the climate, generates oxygen, captures carbon, and sustains all life. “The ocean is what keeps us alive,” she said. Protecting it isn’t just about saving marine life—it’s about ensuring our survival. 💡 Rewriting the Narrative In the face of overwhelming challenges, Dr. Earle emphasised the importance of focusing on solutions and the opportunities we have today. “We are so lucky to be alive right now,” she shared, highlighting that this is our moment to act. Her optimism is grounded in science and action—proof that we still have time to turn things around if we make bold choices now. 🌱 Hope Spots: A Blueprint for Recovery Her work through Hope Spots—critical areas for ocean health—illustrates the power of targeted conservation. These places, rich in biodiversity, demonstrate that with the right care and protection, the ocean can recover. “Green and beauty will come back,” she said, a simple yet profound reminder of the resilience of nature when given the chance. ⚡ Urgency, Not Despair One of the most compelling points she made was about the urgency of this moment. Dr. Earle spoke of tipping points—not as a reason for despair but as a call to action. "We’ve reached a moment where every decision matters." 🙏🏼 In Moments of Eco-Anxiety She encouraged us to remind ourselves what a gift it is to be alive. And gave us all an invitation to be curious and to explore what we can do in our own sphere of influence. Speaking with Dr. Earle was a powerful reminder of why storytelling and science must work hand in hand. As we navigate this defining decade, her words echo: "It’s not too late, but we have to act now." > If you are in a position to support Dr Earle's on going work and mission, please do make a donation here, every little bit helps - https://lnkd.in/gd3K993U > If you want the chance to join Dr. Sylvia Earle and Michael Aw of Ocean Geographic Society on an expedition to Antarctica next year read here -  https://lnkd.in/gt9m_aya Thank you to 1880, Marc Nicholson, Lydia and Qinpei for hosting us. #SylviaEarle #OceanConservation #HopeSpots #ConsciousLeadersCircle

Last Friday we opened our doors and boy, did we start with a bang. Activating all 3 floors, we were finally able to showcase our entire space to friends, family, partners, and those who have supported us and waited for us the last year. As our Founder, Marc says: this is only the beginning. Stick around and party with us some more - we love having you!

  • This year is extra special. We welcomed our first 1880 sibling in Hong Kong - three times bigger, housing both a members club as well as our new public concept 1880 SOCIAL, and with the breadth of culinary, intellectual, wellness, and social events that we’ve come to be known for in Singapore. 1880 Hong Kong is where ideas come to play, beckoning agitators, creators, explorers and adventurers to come together in the pursuit of positive change. It heralds a new era in workspace entertainment and creates a new way for professional fulfilment, meaningful dialogue, and personal growth.

What a week. I sat on a panel in Singapore, talking about engaging youth through culture and education with Hon Dr Stuart Lawrence, Khamisa Haugen, Naqib Shamsuri, and Dr. Damini Chawla. It was an honest discussion about the world our kids will inherit. The timing was… well, emotional. Watching the election results roll in the next day, I felt that familiar frustration. After a few days in the dumps, I’m re-emerging with a renewed sense of responsibility. I can't fix my country’s current state but I can push for the world I want my kids to grow up in—one where empathy, equity, and integrity actually matter. My takeaway: The next generation needs cultural fluency, empathy, and critical thinking to cut through the noise in this hyper-connected, noisy world. They need space to grow but also guidance to navigate what’s real and what isn’t. It’s a job that starts at home. Thank you to the organizers at 1880 Singapore and Dulwich College for the invitation and for creating this space. Here’s to rolling up our sleeves.

Politics and Pop Culture Collide: Final 2024 Pre-Election Event Every year celebrities play a role in Presidential campaigns. It seems they are playing an outsized one in 2024. My final pre-election event of 2024 mixed political analysis, history, and pop culture to put into context what’s happening, why and what may come next. Always good to get laughs when doing so. Though the photo of me with then-First Lady Hilary Rodham Clinton from 1997 got a few more than I anticipated. I am so out of it culturally, many I had to Google as I prepared my slides: The Nelk Boys, D-Nice, Andra Day. I do know who Kill Tony is now. Thanks for arranging Qinpei Shiang and for the great work and service from the entire 1880 Singapore team. "For me, hospitality is about bringing a little bit of happiness to every person that we meet, whether through impeccable food or genuine service with a smile. I spent the first 15 years of my adulthood in London... and London's hospitality scene left a huge impression on me. When [my husband and I] returned to Singapore, we could not find any club that was irreverent, unstuffy and yet unapologetically luxurious in its hospitality. It is said that necessity is the mother of invention—it was this that drove us to build 1880, a place with impeccable F&B and service, where conversations flow and people gather. Now some seven years later, we are excited to spread that happiness to Hong Kong and Bali." 🌍✨Women on a Mission (WOAM) & International Justice Mission (IJM) Strengthen Ongoing Partnership to Combat Trafficking in Asia - $329K Raised and Upcoming Missions Soon to be Announced ✨🌍 An incredible evening supporting IJM, one of our WOAM charity partners, as they continue their vital work rescuing people from human trafficking around the world. Feeling deeply inspired by the dedication and impact of the IJM team! I’m especially proud of our WOAM team, including the amazing women from our #Manila2022 and #Cebu2023 trips, where we experienced IJM's life-changing work firsthand in the Philippines. Our team, in partnership with IJM Singapore, organised "Justice Illuminated," an unforgettable fundraising event at 1880 Singapore, raising a staggering $329K to further their mission of justice and hope. 💛 More than 50% of forced labour globally occurs in Asia, and 500,000 children in the Philippines were sexually exploited by traffickers in 2022 alone. This is why IJM’s work and initiatives like this are so critical. A huge thanks to the organising committee: Lydia Bowden, Mariana de Win Tricolici, Rae Lee, Alison Batey, Lynn Choo, Rebecca F., Sandra T. Lim, Leila Xinle Ng, Anna Shatilova, Kari Ann Tilson, and Sana Zaman. Our wonderful MC, Paul Foster our extraordinary Auctioneer, Georgina Hilton and of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support of our main event sponsors: Brunswick Group, and so many others. 🙏 #EndHumanTrafficking #WomenOnAMission #JusticeIlluminated #IJM #InspiringChange #TogetherForJustice Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/g2ETgj3R
